We compliment the publishers upon the strength of purpose that has maintained such high quality in 3,vorkmanship and contents while success was yet to be proved. It is no slight undertaking to build up a Canadian magazine in opposition to the many foreign pub- lications that have been long es. tablished here. To secure the best class readers xa very high standard of excellence 'mug, be 'reached and maintained at whatever post. The Jottreal i§ strap lent only in the departments of vs*omen's special interests, but in dealing with gen, eral subjeots it is thorough and helpful. A. good example are the articles on home building, plann- ng and decoration in this number. They are evidently planded by authorities on the subject and are not only artistic but practical, giv- ing suggestions on furniture, hang- ings, mouldings, and wall paper that will harmonize. In Toronto alone there are said to be forty moving picture shows and seven more about to start business, This will make one show for every seven thousand of the population .Other carnelian pities are nearly as well supplied, while there are few towns or villages in which a show is not to be found. And it is s sin ae as rule the business is remark. ' ably remunerative, as the shows are universally so well patronized.', The demand for films is so great That it is difficulty it can be met, the fact that 'Ir. Edison, the in- ventor realizes about eight thous- and dollars a week as his royalty on these filets shows the demand there is for them and it is said that over three millions dollars a month are paid for them.
