Mine, shall we acoofnpany Miss Myers?" "Barkis is wlllin" "To the mission then it is take way arm, El, and let me help you along" They were late. One hymn had been sung, another was just being given out as they slipped into a seat, Eleanor passed the open book handed to her to Gus and his cou- sin, with a smile of thanks to the donor. Some one started a hymn, a sweet, clear tenor voice pint ed it up with enthusiasm. Eleanor open- ed her eyes with,,:: astonishment at tee sound of that voice. It was afamiliar It could belong belong to but one person: he must be near her, too, :She glanced about. Yes, on the opposite side of the aisle, two seats ahead, sat Keith Weswiok and beside nim Rob Joselyn. What had happened to the former, she .gazed at the rad- iant, face, listened to the rich ton- es. She had never before heard hits sing like that. Iudeed he seldom opened his mouth at all at the miesion. He had said but little about the sty -le at music used there batt that little was not particularly complimentary. But if ever any one sang with relish, it was this very gentleman tonight. What was the secret? Could it be? Yes, it must be, and Rob? What had she heard? was it impossible God had answered her prayer tor Keith so marvelously as to have already set him at work for others? As she pondered he glanced back attract- ed, no doubt, as we often are by the intent gaze of another—and met her eyes with a smile so glad, so sympathetic, that she felt her whole being respond with a thrill. "I believe that is Keith Weswick ahead, what a nagnificient tenor! How strange •to find liim here l" whispered Miss Reynolds to her escort. 'Me may be here for en- terteinment, like ourselves," was the reply. "Impossible ! he acts as if he really.' enjoyed these ab surd songs. That matte me think, did I not hear something about his turning pious?" "Not worth re• calling if you. did. About as near it as I am myself. He looks much more like it. Then a moment later catching the full reflection of that rapturous smile, t'ie invulnerable is human after all. It seems our little nun here knows how to pierce the joints of his armor. "You are jealous, Mag. 'because you could not capture'mett, with ,a nod, Gus looked down "slily, 'nevertheless, at the aria ani on his : other aide. Her eyes were drooping, her faoe flushed, a happy smile fluttered about her tremulous lips. ' Surely" she was saying to herself, ' "surely he has found something he never bad before" She had no need for slightest doubt a moment after. One, two, three short prayers and then—could she believe it?—his voice simply but joyfully calling upon God You cannot understand her emotion ; reader, if you have never had cause for the like joy. How great the difference with which those three who sat togeth- er listened, Miss Reynolds' aston- ished face bad yet room for the "I told you so" she turned on Gus, whose surprise was nothing less than consternation, what would happen next? would the world turn upside down in his sight? He looked to see the effect of all this on Eleanor, and' the wonderment grew ; for tears, actual tears, were triokiing from under her closed eyes and dropping on the hands folded in her lap. Gus could see no canse for tears. Of course Keith, was making: an unmitigated fool of himself, there was no doubt of that, but he knew this girl would not think so. Hee xpected her to rejoice, why shouldshe sorrow? Happy tears were a paradox, be- yond his power to understand There were More surprises to fol - "I ani pleased to recommend Chamberlain s Cough Remedy as the best thing I know of and safest remedy for coughs, colds and bronchial trouble," writes Mrs. L. Some valuable information re• gerding this year's crop in the North West is cen(ained in the re- cently published annual report of the Ogilvie Milling Co. The com- pany'sl agents estimate a total wheat yield of 86,000,000 bushels, of which forty to fifty per cent is expected to grade No 1 and 2, the balance being low grades. This estimate shows a loss of thirty to thirtyfive million bushels when compared with the crop of a year ago. It is only fair to state that this estimate by no' means agrees with that of the government which places this year's yield at 100,000,- 000 bushels, ANTI CIGARETTE—General Baden Powell gave his experience in smoking to a meeting of the Inter- national anti Cigarette League at L d He had learned to smoke ee s when he was young and foolish, but gave it up when he went in for rifle shooting. After giving it up he became a very fair shot. When he went to the West Coast of Africa the most unhealthy climate in the world, he was advised to smoke at night to keep away mosquitoes. In the campaign in Matabeleland he learned that scouts did not smoke because it destroyed the power of smell and injured the eyesight. Smoking is not necessary for men but it is very bad for boys. No boy ever takes to smoking because he likes it hut because he wants to look like aman. And then, was it possible 1 Eleanor, alert as she had been to the situation, did not expect this, Richard Turner arose. She had noticed the third well dressed young man in the seat ahead but had not connected him with the others. Now, as he turned his frank boy face to the audience, she recognized him as the only son of the old clergyman, the source of his deepest woe. The joy -bells in this girl's soul were ringing gladly by this time, she did not need to be told, she knew beyond all doubt that the friend, for whom she had trembled and prayed had been the favored in strument of all this blessedness, Quite a knot of persons gathered around the young men when the service closed. It amused Miss Reynolds to see how speedily one of them disengaged himself and sought Eleanor's side. She mark- ed also the closeness and fervor of the hand -clasp and the pretty color that answered it and drew her own conclusions. "Yon have company to•nigbt?" This from Keith with a glance at Mr. Carle- ton, who stood a little apart. "Only Gus," indifferently. "He isn't my company either, he is with his cousin." "1 wonder ought I?" He glanced at his two friends and the maiden understood. "Bring them with you," she urged, and then flushed. crimson at her own temerity, meeting bis roguish smile. "That would defraud me of the long talk I covet with you alone. Perhaps you will permit me to call at your home for a little while tomorrow night?" ••For as long as you please" And though Keith's question and its answer was all that Mararet heard of this conversation, the flush of more than pleasure on the young man's part did not escape her, or the evasion of his eyes on the part of the maiden. Eleanor Meyers us- ually dealt with men as she did with woman, as if she knew no sdifferenoe between them. (To be continued) Ethel M. Williams, Pres. Supt. SCHOOL REPORT. Be industries. Time and skill are capital. Be saving, whatever it may be live within your income. Be prudent. Buy not what you can do without. Be resolute. Let your ceremony be always of to -day not of to- morrow. Be contented and thankful, A cheerful spirit makes labor light and sleep sweet, and the mind happy which is better than riches. Pork. once the poor man's food but of late years the rich mans delicacy, is on the descent as far as the price of hogs is concerned. Until a month ago the price was very high, but since then it has gradually become cheaper, and from the present outlook it will be very, very much cheaper before long. The reason for the decrease in price is that as pork was so high in price a number of farmers started raising hogs and they have now a large supply—larger than the demand. True, the price is still high. but the people can bank on it that there will be a drop Jas. Whyte, Agt.' MASSEY-HARRIS. CO. OVER 66 YEARS EXPERIENCE : TRADE MARKS DESIGNS.
