qrs. Among them is Mr' W R.
Travers, General Manager of The
Farmers. Bank of Canada, and has
the following to say of this
gentleman
It will be remembered that the
predecessor of; Mr Mcleod nay
Thomas Fysshe, formerly of the
Merchants, is kn many respects,
especially as regards conservative
banking method% similar to the
Bank of Nova Scotia. A training in
the Merchants would be a good
credential for a position 'in the
Bank of Nova Scotia. One of Mr.
Fysshe's most valued pupils in the
Merchttnts Bank was W. R. Tree
vers, General Manager of The
Farmers Bank o Canada. Mr,
Travers was for yetirs a prominent
officer in the Merchant's Bank
When Mit. Fysshe left to go to
The Bank of Novi Scotia he reluc-
tantly declined an offer to accom-
pany him, to close Were their per
sonal and business relations. A pro
minent banker, speaking to the
World last night, Said that he
oonsideeed Mr. Travers one ot the -
most conservative bankers in Can
ada and would not be surprised if
the directors of tha'Bank of Nova
Scotia thought of Mr. Fysshe and
bis services at this time and re-
membered the great confidence in
and {reliance upon Mr. Travers
that Mr. Fysshe always imposed.
The Farmers Bank of Canada has
a branch in oxer, village also one at

of Mr. R. T. Dunlop,

An attack of the grip is often
followed by a persistent cough,
which to many proves a great
annoyance. Chamberlain's Cough
Remedy has been extensively used
and with good success for the
relief and cure of this cough.
Many cases have been cured after
all other remedies had failed.

Parliament Takes Action to Protect Public.
Ottawa, Feb. 6.— With probably
between two and three hundred
read dogs running around all parts
of Westerm Ontario, and new cases
of rabies being reported to the
veterinary director -general's de.
partment almost daily, the Minist-
ter of Agriculture and Dr, Ruther-
ford, acting in cooperation with
the health department of the
Onlario Goverment have determiu-
ed on drastic action to stamp out
the dread disease. It has been
steadily growing more prevalent
ever since it was first introduced
into the province by a dog which
.crossed the Suspension bridge over
the Niagara River at Queenston
in May, 1907, and bit several
Canadian dogs.
Upper anthority of an order in
council containg regulations in re•
spent to rabies, an order was issued
on Satnrday by the department of
agriculture on the report of Dr.
Rutherford, veterinary director-
general, to the effect that rabies is
known to exist in many widely
sepaiated parts of the western
peninsula of Ontario, directing
that all dogs in that part of the
province lying west of the eastern
boundaries of York and Simooe
counties must either be securly
chained in an outhouse or other
building, or kept ander lock and
key, or else kept constantly muzz-

in a manner satisfactory to the
veterinary inspeotors of the depart
relent. The order further states
that in any municipality where
rabies is known actually to exist.
the muzzling privilege may be
withdrawn, in which case all dogs
must be chained or kept under
look and key.
This order. affecting as it doee
every dog -owner in western Ont-
ario from a point a little east of
Toronto, and requiring the
muzzling or chaining of many
thousands of dogs, is bound to
create a storm of protest, but
both the Provincial and Federal
authorities have agreed that the
only way to effectively stop the
further spread ot the disease is by
the above drastic method. For
infringment of the regulation a
maximum fine of $200 may lee
impoted under the Federal act
a fine of $20 for each infraction of
any regnlation of the Provincial
Health Board may be exacted. The
Provincial. Secretary has agreed to
act in co operation with the Federal
authorities, and will use the mach-
inery of the Provincial constables
and peace officers to assist the
Dominion veterinary inspectors
in enforcing the order. £he dual
jurisdiction in the case is because
of the fact that rabies endangers
both human lives and live stock,
