A tiny girl of seven gave a dinner party the other dty, for which 12 covers were laid, and that number of small maidens sat down to dine, It was a real little girls' dinner, and the hostess herself presided, sitting at the bead of the table. She had been very anxious, in looking forward to it, to do everything as it should be done. "Mamma,” she asked, "shall we say grace?” "No," said mamma ; "it will be a very informal dinner, and 1 tbink you need not do that." That meant one ceremony the, less to go through, and was a re- lief. But the little lady was anxious to have all her guests understand So, as they gathered about the table she explained: .'Mamma says that this is sitoli' an infernal dieter that we need not have grace to -day." It is well to hear the hen man's side of the question before coming to a conclusion. An ex -city man and the owner of a small chicken farm near Toronto writes to one of the papers of that city as follows : When I lived in the city and was o'aliged to pay present prices for eggs, I thought as many do, that stories, Indian legends, prospectin the farmer must be making a small tales of the far Queen Charlotte is lands and strange happenings i the backwoods, all appealing in some of their many sidedness t sportsmen of varied tastes and in olinations. In reading snch de lightful stories, everyone redolent of the actual, one lives over again some of one's own pleasures, thus obtaining a double measure from the outing which yielded so much enjoyment at the time. To begin the New Year well and continue- throughout ontinuethroughout in the same good way, the companionship of Rod and Gun should be secured. If he adopts this course the sportsman will have continual reminder throughout the year of his own outings, and ad- ditions to the bright anticipation% no one can rob him, but Rod and. Gun adds to both, and makes the year one continual pleasure, no part of which the sportsman will, lose if he secures its companionship for the ensuing twelve months, Owing to `the quarantine on Re Mr', Diividspns•fat>ii11y for Dipt eria, he is unable to take t services here. Running through all th stories -and there are many of then -is that pleasant out -door ton whioh always proves a healtlifu tonic, the plentiful supply of whicl in stories and pictures, has give the magazine an assured position Fishing and hunting experience are interspersed with campin tortuneett the 60 cent rate ; but I have changed ..any mind, as I find the price of•ieggs is -like other things -controlled by the law of supply and demand, and, unfortu nately for both • the producer and the consumer •the supply at this time of the year is very limited in- deed, for the reason that hens whioh have layed for nine or ten months go on strike about the first or October, and do not call it off until about January ; while spring palletsare not putting in full time as yet. Then the, price of feed is very, high. and has been for the past two or: three years. For in• stance. wheat which could be bought three years ago for 65 cents per bushel is quoted to -day at 11 to $1.05. and. has been as high•as $1,30 within the last six months. Even at thee° prices a man might make some' money if his flook of hens were in it good laying condi• tion; but until some one perfects a plan to make hens lay whether they will or not, I do not see any way for consumers to do but to pay the price for eggs or do with- out; es for thyself, "1 am not mak- ine expenses from my flock at pre sent. • ANNUAL MEETING The Fourth Annual Meeting of the Huron Weather Insurance Mutual Company, will be held in the TONT Hall, Zurich, on Tues- day.
