Suffered From a Heavy Cold,
diDir,uritic Pains in Side—Con-
stant Coughing,
as NERVILIN€ CURED QUICKLY "
"Anyone that goes through all that 1
suffered last winter will appreciate the
value of a remedy that cures like Nervi -
line eured me." These are the opening
words of the solemn declaration of E.
P. Von Hayden, the well known violin-
ist, of Middleton. "My work kept me
out luta at night, and playing in cold
drafty places brought on a severe cold
that settled on my chest, I had a harsh
reeking oou:gh and severe pains darted
through my aides
NERVILINE and settled in my
shoulders. I used
CURES different liniments,
but none broke up
my cold. till I used
Nerviline. I rub-
bed it on my neck,
gest and shoulders, morning and night,
and all the pain disappeared. Realizing
that such a heavy cold had run down
my system, I took Perrozone at meals,
and was completely built up and
strengthened. Since using Nen-viline I
have no more colds 02 pleurisy, and en-
joy perfect health."
It's because Nezviitne contains the
purest and most healing essences and
medicinal principles, because it has the
power of sinking through the pores to
thekernel of the pain—these are the
reasons why it breaks up colds, cures
lumbago, stiffness, neuralgia, sciatica,
and rheumatism. Reffuse any substitute

EXTREMES IN VENUS.
One half in Sun, the Other in
Chilling Shade.
>m
To have the same hemisphere exposed
everlastingly to sunlight while the oth-
er is in perpetuity turned away, must
cause a state of things of which we can
form but faint conception from what we
know on earth. Baked for aeons without
let-up and still baking, the sunward face
must, if unshielded, be a Tophot sur-
passing our powers adequately to por-.
try. And unshielded it must be, as we
shall presently see. Reversely, the other
must be a hyperborean expanse to which
our polar regions axe temperate abodes.
For upon one whole hemisphere of Venus
the sun never shines, never so much as
peeps above the star-studded horizon.
Night eternal reigns over half of her
globe! The thought would appall the
most intrepid of our arctic explorers,
and prevent at least everybody from go-
ing to the pole; or rather what here re-
places it, "through the dark continent."
It exemplifies the eventual effects
of a force in astronomical mechanics,
the importance of which is only begin-
ning to be appreciated: tidal friction.
It has brought Venus as a world to the
deathly pass we have contemplated to-
gether. Starting merely as a brake up-
on her rotation, it has ended by des-
troying all those physical condition
which enable our own world to be what
it is. Night and day, summer ltnd win-
ter, heat and cold, are vital vicissitudes
unknown now upon our sister orb. There
nothing changes while the centuries
pass, An eternity of deadily deathless-
ness is Venus' statuesque lot.—Dr. Per-
cival Lowell, in The Popular Science
Monthly.

When the Skyscraper is Plumb.
The skyscraper .meehanie tells how
they see if everyt}iiiib is all built and
balanced to the fraction of a hair, and
this is not done entirely by high mathe-
matics, as some professors might sup-
pose. As a building goes up, one way of
telling if everything is solid and straight
is to hang a big plumb bob, weighing a
hundred or so pounds, on a steel piano
wire, fastened to the top and dead cen-
tre of the building, a spot found by
crossing lines from the corners of the
building. Of course, the least give in
the foundation or fault in the steel
would show at once by the hanging
plumb bob getting off centre. --New York

PEACH KISSES.
Have ready twelve fine, ripe peaches,
pared and halved. Boil one pint of sugar
and half a pint of water until the sirup
is brittle; try it by dropping a little in
cold water. It should break with a snap
when tested. Dip the halved peaches,
one after another, into the sirup and set
away on an oiled. dish to harden. While
they are
hardening whip
the whites
of
four eggs stiff, mix lightly in five table-
spoonfuls of blanched and finely chop-
ped almonds. Drop in large spoonfuls
In a pan of boilingwater and cook for a
minute or two, hen lift out carefully
with a skimmer and place on a large
plate until time to serve. Fill each of
the peach halves with the mixture,
rounding the tops slightly, and serve
cold. Delicious.

Cat's Peculiar Sense.
According to a note in the Scientific

are found e ' zv in animals which hold
their food sat their forepaws, or which
crawl and climb. Thus they are want-
ing in the ungulate, with the exception
of Hyrax, ane}(also in the apes and mon-

they are also wanting in the dog, in

Justice is of course loudly demanded
by every litigant in a court of law, ! et
it is a frequent infirmity of the human
mind to (=fuse justice with one's own
cause. The late Thomas B. Reed used to
toll an amusing story to illustrate tads
tendency.
Hewas once retained by an enterpris-
ing client to prosecute an action.
On talking with the plaintiff's wit-
nesses Mr. Reed found that their stories
were far from consistent, so he reported
the suit be dropped. The plient was some-
what perturbed, but told the attorney
he would have a talk with the witnesses
and let him know the next morning
what he had decided.
' True to his word, he dropped in bright
and early, wearing the cheerful look of
one who has fought the good fight.
"I've seen those witnesses," he ex-
plained, "and they say they must have
been mistaken when they talked with
you. They all see it alike now. I've also
seen some of the jurymen, and they
think I'll win. Now, if there's such a
thi.-g as justice in law, we caul lose."

Honesfy in Advertising.
Among the//'steps of progress to be re-
corded in ou9•,\oung national career are
the increased 'honesty and diminished
dishonesty o '•ommercial advertising.
The pleasin improvement in "dry
goods" adve, ding has reached the re-
markable degcee of at least one mer-
chant setting forth the relative advan-
tages and disadvantage sof two articles
offered to the public. This Brutus of
business says, concerning one kind of
raincoat, that it is "not absolutely wat-
er -tight," though "proof against any
ordinary shower." The other kind, he
tells you, "ip water=tight," but, since
the body's heat and moisture do not
escape, this „accumulation or secretion
"dampens thh inside of the coat, be-
sides making the wearer uncomfortably
hot." Is it not rather a new thing foe
