A RUM SELLER'S ADVICE.
.A runiseller in Grafton had a
son, a bright, promising sora, whom
he regarded with pride and affec-
tion. For a long time the father
kept his son away from the bar.
But at length, in the pressure of
business, love and prudence gave
way to .avarice, and the son was
made bartender. The father took
the son behind the bar. and point-
ing to a long row of bottles, said:
"Do you see those bottles?'
"Yes," said the son. "Well there's
poison in every sone! There is
poison in every one ! Don't you
ever drink a drop—not a drop!"
But the influence of the bar prov-
ed
rowed too strong for the father's
counsel. Example is mightier than
precept. The son drank and went
down, through descending steps of
sin and shame, till he died a miser-
able drunkard. Thus it is that the
prime of the rumseller recoils upon
his whole family, and his iniquity
's visited upon his own children;
