Miss Viola Edighoffer, of Blake
visited friends in town, on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Siebert of Dash-
wood were visitors at Mr. Pree-
ter's on Sunday.
Mr. R. R. Johnston of the Dom-
inion Souse has been laid up in bed
for some time with rheihmatism,
but' his many friends will be glad
to hear that he is improving.
Mr. C. Hartleib sold four mal-

a Christmas entertainment as us-
ual this year, and the program
committee was appointed on

Father Loiselle. who has been
parish priest of Drysdale parish for
a number of years, and who has
many personal friends here, is leav-
ing for a parish near Windsor.
Father Landerville of Montreal is
to be his successor, and while we
regret Fr. Loiselle's departure we
extend a hearty welcome to Fr.
Landerville.
Mr. Warren S. Dignan. of the
Zurich Road, this township, died of
heart failure, on Sunday 14thinst.,
havingreaohed the age of 69 years,
6 months and 21 days. .The fun-
eral took plane oa Tuesday after-
noon to Fannsville •cemetery and
was largely attended despite the
inclement weather. He leaves a
• widow and nine children to mourn
his loss.
A very pretty wedding was cele-
brated at the Mennonite church on
the 14th inst.. when Lydia Ann.
elaugh4ear of ialr, Mrs, Joel
Bociiler became the wife of Mr.
Christian Erle of Blake. The cere-
mony was performed at high noon
by Rev. N. Stauffer of Berlin.
After the ceremony the young
couple drove to the home of the
bride's parents, where a wedding
dinner was served. The young
couple will settle down on a farm
on the Bronson Line. We join
with the friends in wishing the
young couple every success.

In the bye -election in North Es-
sex last Thursday to decide the
successor to R. F. Sutherland in
the house of commons, the Con-
servative candidate, Oliver J.
Wilcox, was elected over W. J.
McKee by 75 majority. Mr. Suther•
land's majority at the last election
was 551.
Huron county will have twelve
contests for local option in Jan-
uary. The following places have
handed in the required petitions all
fully signed. Towns—Clinton and
Wingham ; villages—Exeter, Brus-
sels, Blyth and Bayfield; town-
ships—Colborne, Grey„ tiay, Steph-
en, Tuckersmith and Turnberry.
M. C. McLennan a former Pres-
byterian minister at Kippen, and
vdell known in this section as an
opponent of H. Either M. P. P. in
the 1905 Provincial election, is re-
ported to have been a defaulter to
the went of 43000 00 and had

Mrs. B. Howald's house •: at the
West end had a narrow escape
from being destroyed by fire on
Wednesday. There was quite a
hole burnt into the roof, near the
chimney, and but for the timely
arrival of some neighbors it is hard
to say how serious a blaze might
have occurred as there was a gale
blowing from thQ West at the time.
The old telephone booth which
was badly shattered by the burg-
lars last July, has been replaced

Lutheran Church—Next Sunday
being the last Sunday of the
church year, the morning service
will be devoted to the commenora-
tion of the departed .ones. The
evening service will be conducted
in English. This being the last
service in the Church Year, the
subject of meditation will be,
•Christ the Alpha and Omega, the
beginning and the " end of all
things." A hearty invitation is
extended to all.

ing Institute, held in Stratford Y.
M. C. A. last Friday, v,as attended
by good representation of the
counties of Huron and Bruce; and a
most interesting and profitable
day's discussion is reported, The
main theme of the day's program.
