dERI'1AN SETTLERS FOR
THE WEST,
Toronto dailies announce that a
city firm of real estate dealers
have perfected t>rrangements for
bringing a large number of people
from Germany to settle in the
Western Provinces of Canada.
Surely those papers which have
been howling about war between
,Germany and Great Britain will
not permit this work to, proceed?
If there is danger of a lot of Ger-
man waiters in London forming a
hostile array in the heart of the
Empire for the purpose of co- oper-
ting with German invaders, there
must be equal clanger of German
settlers in the West performing a
like service to the Fatherland.
Commonsense people, however,
who look upon both scares as
equally absurd, will gladly welcome
to the West more off. the same
element whieh has done so much
for progress in Ontario.
August time, tells on the nerves.

noticed. Of course, full health will

If the millions spent annually in
increasing warlike armament wore
turned over for the advancement
of Missionary effort and the hold-
ing of groat Peace Conferences the
world would stand amazed at the
results. It would be an effort well
worthy of the dawning of better
clays toward reconciliation and the
abandonment of war. Let the
white flag be hoisted and the doct-
rine taught, "That the men who
make the quarrel be the only ones
to fight," if arbitration fails.

HONEY CROP COMMITTEE
REPORT.
Honey Crop Committee met with
Secretary 1odgetts at his office
Parliament Buildings Aug. 3rd and
considered reports received from
members of 0. B, K. A. and others.
Number reporting was greater than
any previous year, which shows
increased interest and appreciation
of the work of the committee. It
was somewhat of a surprise to
find the average yield per coloznse
only about 59 lbs,—a trifle over
that of last year, which reported
55 lbs. In the face of this the
Committee concluded that honey
should command almost as good a
price, and suggest for, No, 1 light
extracted 9tc. to 101c, per ib.,
wholesale, and 120. per lb. retail.
For No. 1 white comb, $1,80 to
$2,25 per dozen, wholesale. No. 2
comb, $1.50 to $1,75 per dozen,
wholesale, There is evidently no
old honey on hand or on the mark-
et, and the quality of the new crop
is superb, and will no doubt
increase consumption, Bee -keepers
are advised not to over -crowd the
early market. but to reserve stook
to supply the later demand.
Number of colonies have increased.
