NOT GOOD FOR BUSINESS
A trai eller for a wholesale gro-
cery., was in Midland recen11.y and
got talking With a customer about
local option. The merchant said:
"I'll give you an example of how it
works.:1 have a customer who leav-
es methirty or forty dollars a month
and pays promptly. A couple of'
years ago he fell ill and got behind
$125. When he got round he paid
bis current account as usual, but I
couldn't get him to reduce the
standing account. It Went on for
nearly a year, then we carried Local
Option.' A little while after it came
into force he came in of his own ac-
cord -and gave me several small notes
covering the $125, and spreading
the payment over several months.
Those notes be met as they fell due
and when the last was paid 1 asked
him why he couldn't just as well
have paid the account the summer
before. His reply was: 'Local Op-
tion.' Isaid.''You didn't stand that
much over the bar?" He said: 'Yes,
1 did, and more."
Yet people will say Local Option
is not good for business.

The best business barometer for
town is the advertising columns
of its local newspapers. Those
seeking bargains will go many
miles further to trade whero they
see bargains advertised than where
none are offered; hence business is
always better in a town where
merchants advertise their wares
than where thendo not, One good
advertiser is ofmore benefit to a
town than half a dozen nervous
business men as he not only helps
himself, but helps his competitors
who are ton sleepy and slow to
grasp their opportunities.
Any mother who has had exper-
ience with this distressing ailment
will be pleased to know that a cure
may be effected by applying Cham-
berlain's Salve as soon as the child
is done nursing. Wipeit off with
a soft cloth. before allowing the
babe to nurse. Many trained nur-
ses use this salve with best results.
