NEW YEAR GREETINGS
A happy New Year, to members
and friends of the Evangelical
chuach
Today we wish each : other "a
happy New Year" we seem to stand
at a fresh sturtiug point. It is on-
ly natural that wo wish each other
well through it. "We are on the
threshold of a now year, we do not
know what the year holds for us,
but we are not afraid of it. How-
ever. it is always a, serious thing to
live. We can pass through any
year but once. If we have lived
negligently we cannot return to
amend what we have neglected.
We cannot correct mistakes, fill up
blank spaces erase lines we may be
ashamed of or cut out pages un-
worthily filled, not a word we
write can be changed, nothing we
do can be cancelled. Let ns re-
member, we do not pass through
the year alone, we are tied up with
others in our homes, our friend-
ships, our companionships, our
associations, our occupations. We
are continually touching others
and leaving impressions on them.
Human lives are like the photo•
grapher's sensitized plates, re-
ceiving upon them the image of
whatever possess before them. Our
careless words drop, and we think
not where they fall, but they lod-
ge in some heart and leaves its
blessings or its blight.
It is said that every word
whispered into the air starts vibra-
tions, which will quiver on and on
forever. The same is true also of
inflonces which go out from our
lives ; they will go forever. This
should make us most careful what
we do, what we say, and what
quality of.life we give to the
world. Life is. indeed serious, be-
cause we mVstr Live account for it
all. Remena' r1r' that for every
idle wordthat men speak they
must give account. If for the
idle words light, airy empty words
how much more for the words
which arty filled with bitterness ;
or with malice, or with evil or
falsehood, of envy, of irreverence
We are not done with life as we
live it; we shall meet it all again
This should make us exceeding-
ly watchful over every word, act
and influence of'our days. Nothing
can he concealed, every sem et
thing shall be brought to light
We should give • the year nothing
which we shall ever be ashamed to
see again. Enter the year with a
kind thought for everyone, An i11
natured thought often makes us
unhappier than the person to
whom it is directed, we should
seek to live hopefully, cheerfully,
sweetly, victoriously. We should
strive ever to make God attractive,
so that people who see Him in us
shall learn to love Him. If this
be a happy New Year, a year of
usefulness, a year in which we
shall live to make this earth bet-
ter, it is because God will direct
our pathway. How important then
to feel our dependence upon Him.
"Haste not thy precious hours in
idle dreams, vain disputations and
perplexing themes ; This life is
seed time for eternity, and as thy
sowing shall thy reaping be. Be
earnest, then. 0 man, while time
is given, "To sow for righteousness
for God and Heaven." May God
measure to you and yours His
richest blessings during the coin
ing year is the wish of your friend
and pastor. A. D. Gischier.

To check early colds or Grippe with "Preventica"
moans sure defeat for Pneumonia,. To stop a cold
with Preventics is safer than to lot it run and be
obliged to cure it afterwards. To be sure, Pre.
ventics will cure even a deeply seated cold, but
taken early—at the sneeze stage—they break, or
head off these early colds. That:s surely better.
That's why they are called Preventics.
