LUTHERAN LAYMEN'S
MOVEMENT 01st CANADA IS OR-
GANIZED.
E-GANIZED.
(continued from page 5)
Rev. Mr, Brueohner stated that
there were figuratively speaking, no
laymen in the Lutheran church for
not only the pastors but' also the mean
hers of the congregations bad to give'
their practical assistance in the vine-
yard of the Lord. Consideing the.
question in this light ;pastor's cattle,.
also be called laymen,He himself was
a laymen. The speaker then referr-
ed .to the fact that so many° hien were'
Christians only in name. Theywoe-
shipped the Lord only within 'the,
church walls but without they - were
ashamed to proclaim Him as such,
It was impossible,' however to be a
Christian only in the church and to.
live a worldly life without. It' was
time that the laymen were standing;
up to defend the slurs uttered against
their Lord, More practical everyday"
Christanity was required. Rev. W. C.
Miller of Zurich, leading in prayer.
The second speaker was Mr. C.. Cs,:
Grauer of Buffalo, N.Y.; who deliver-
ed an excellent English address:. He.
referred to the opportunities for the
laymen to answer the Lords command
which was "work." Some of these
were the education on the foreigner,
the preparing of sons for the ministry
and contributing funds and supplying
men in order to meet the demands for
missionaries in the North Nest.
After.the close of the services the
formal organization of the association
took place, at which •Mr. 0. IL Stiver
of Unionville, Ont. presided, -A hearty
vote of thanks was voted to St.Math-
ew's congreation and the pastor of the
church for the use of the e,,clifice for
the meetings.. The meetitg was
then brought to a fitting°'close with
the Lord's prayer.
