Coi.lii, euting on the winding up' of
the Zui;ieh Turf Club the correspond-
ent of the London Free Press, in an
article. lin Thursday's Free Press
is treading on rather thin ground and
if it were°inore than the ravings of an
overstimulated brain,the managers of
the Cl b Would. "call hini up short".
Why the press :will puplish the
"rot"'that is sent as Zurich news
from time- to time i, more than ordin-
ary intelligence can figure out. The
club was disbanded it is true, but not
on account of in i sin a n a gement, nor
was there ever any question as to
anything being wrong "iinancial'ly
and otherwise". The secretary, who
also happens.to be the Editor of this
paper dad, •kre believe, the President
Mr. C. Either have clone their duty
faithfully, have Pleated everybody,
including reputable members of the
press, respectably and courteously,
but if„ tide aforsaid correspondent in-
cltules himself in "the press" the sec-
retary. for one. pleads guilty, and feels
perfectly justified in treating such as
he with the uttermost contempt. We
understand that one city paper drop-
ped the -old pencil pusher, and when
the Free Press learns what i t really
has' at this point it will also be acting
the part of wisdom by "cutting out"
the rubbish that is appearing under
the Zurich heading of their journal.
Hereafter we will treat the old "has
been" with silent contempt.

It ys to Paint in Th Fall!
the better the Paint, the better it pays.
It hays, because the wood is free of moisture and, no hot sun to blister the paint.
It pays, because there are not many rainy days, and the flies and bugs are gone.
It pays, because the paint has a better chance to take hold of the wood and
dry hard and smooth, protecting the surface better for the eight roughest
months of the year.
And it certainly does pay to buy good paint. It pays, in the fresh, bright
colors—it pays in protection—it pays in the longer, wear.
There isn't much difference between what you pay, for good, honest paint, and
"cheap" paint—but there's a big difference in What you get.
IT PAYS TO USE We handle 100% Pure Paint—(Pure White Lead,
Zinc and Linseed Oil Paint)—the kind that takes
less and wears longer.
Such paint as this on your house, is a good invest -
spent. It brings daily returns in pleasure, protec-
tion, profit.

for the kind of Paint we handle.

BREAD AND BUTTER PERIOD,
It Makes a Woman an "Understand-
• ing Companion."
There is no gainsaying the fact
that the broad-minded man has come
to appreciate the importance -to him-
self—of the wile of business or pro-
cessional training. The world has not
yet.:grown ,accustomed to the woman
in business.Woman herself has. not
,,gr -4t ''i accustomed to it, for the world,
foreq her .into a false position, Per-
hapa,.after all, it is nature and not
the world, -for of the business or pro-
fessional woman only the wife or the
widow who has closed the door t,l
romance in her life regards the busi-
ness or professional life as the nig-
mate life. Usually it merely is a
bread and butter period until some
man comes along to make the bread
and butter for her,
But that bread and butter period
makes her a more understanding corn-
panion to the man who comes and
takes her back into the life for which
she was intended. Oh, yes, my fair
readers, that is it—the life for which
she was intended. You may place at
the head of your creed "I believe in
the business training for a woman,"
and you may believe it sincerely, but
you prove, every one of you, that
your creed closes, "but I believe she
was intended for a home," because
the minute the right opportunity of-
fers to return to the home, how long
dols it take you to shut down your
desk and smile a farewell to the busi-
ness world? The business opportunity.
only gives ye -u a chance to be inde.
pendent in your choice. You have the
advantage over your grandmother in
being self-supporting and dependent
onlyon the man—not a man.
Will many wives who have known
the exhaustion of a commercial day
in a great city make the demands
upon the evening of the husband
which will come from the wife who
has not known? Will the wife who
has known the hours spent in thb
making of the dollar demand the dol-
lar unreasonably as readily as the
'wife who has not known the effort re-
•quired? Will not personal knowledge
of public life and its competition and
annoyances make a woman more re-
sponsive in her sympathy? If it does
not, this woman indeed is hopeless
and selfish, and would be so no mat.
