Day, December 25th, Mr. "Tolly" Wurm, Zurich's sport enthusiast left on Wednesday for Toronto and other Eastern points, to (so the wise ones say) look up some material for this year's bassball team. We venture the opinion that the trip has some connection with the suff- ragette question. Mr. and Mrs. Geo; Innes expect to leave for Moosejaw some time next month. Mr. Innes has been a resi- dent of Zurich for a number of years, having had charge of Preeter's tin- smithing department. He has been a good citizen and hismany friendswish him abundant success in his 'new home. • The city of Stratford will shortly vote on a by-law to give a franchise to the Canadian Northern to build a street railway in that city. If the franchise is granted the company will also undertake to build rural branch lines and it is likely that one of them will be extended Westerly through Zurich to Grand Bend or Bayfield. On Saturday last Dick Tasker got his release from the Brantford Can- adian League Base Ball team. Dick asked for an increase in his monthly pay envelope but the management could nob see their way clear to give it to him and so Manager Vane handed him his release. Draining the big Hay township swamp is a move in the right died - tion and the difficult contract will be a good profit yielder when com- pleted. The same astronomic causes are still in force at this time as during the two preceding periods, call- ing for the same watchfulness and precaution. Equinoctial gales and cyclones will move northward from the equator, possibly reaching our south coast regions at this. Counter storms of rain, sleet and blizzards may be expected out of the northwest at the- same time. Unreasonable cold will prevail far into the south during the last days of February. HOCKEY On Friday evening a lively game of hockey was played at the Hensall rink between Crediton and Zurich, resulting in a victory for Crediton by the score of 6 to 5 the score at half time being 4 to 2 in favor of Crediton. Our boys had by far the best of the game in the last half, but by a few individual rushes, Crediton won the game. The ice was soft therefore making it hard work for the players. This, is the third game our boys have lost this winter, and if they play an- other game we wish them better luck, but all the boys have to say is "If *a only had a• RINK", and why shouldn't we have it?.
