Considerable interest was taken in the elections on Monday the friends of local option put forth every effort to obtain the victory while perhaps the Anti party were still more vigorous. Two Exeter lads aged 11 and 13, who had decided to run away from home, got as far asDenfield on the even ing passenger train. When the train pulled into Denfield they jumped off and Section Foreman Cleghorn, who saw them, made - inquiries. He and Station Agent Miller learned of the runaway plans and then persuaded them that they had better return home, The boys agreed, and they were sent back by the first northbound freight. The numerous and costly presents testify to the es- teem in which the young people are held. Chris Gingerich shipped a car load of chickory to the American side on Monday. The Annual meeting of the con- gregation was held to the church on Friday last and was largely attended. The retiring managers P. Durand and A. T. Douglas were re-elected. Word has been received from itirs Thirsk and nephew John Freckleton, who left for the Old country some weeks ago. Deceased came from Germany when 19 years old, and settled on the farm just East of the riyer, which at that time was one big bush. About ten years ago they celebrated their golden wed- ding, and on April 23rd they would have been married 60 years. Some 45 years ago he suffered a paralytic stroke front which he never fully recovered. Beside his bereaved wife, three sons Chas. of Fillmore, Sask. Chris. on the homestead, and William of Zurich, and two daughters Mrs. Benedict of Crediton, and Mrs. Robt. Stanley of Listowel morn the loss of a loving husband and father.
