Two years had passecl by; years to
Dorothy, of earnest, happy work fer
the Master. It was easy for tbe one
who had been used to the joy of ser-
vice, to find in this new field the op-
portunity that waits on willingness.
She had interested a number of young
girls in the white ribbon, work, and
when a Y was organized she was en-
thusiastically' chosen its president, Out
of the Y grew a -Loyal 'Temperance
Legion, with Dorothy as its efficient
leader and the younger women as
teachers, and parents as well as child-
ren and teachers united in their ad-
miration and love for the capable
little woman, Two years had passed
and now, in the early morning of
Dorbthy'S twenty-six birthday, she
had run over to tell her joy to her
friend in the big house. Oh Mrs Blake
today is nay birthday,. anti John has
given me the greatest surprise—the
very desire of my heart. Do you know
what, it is? I think I could guess.
Without waiting for a guess, Dorothy
hurried on. John tells me ho has plan
nedto build us a hOlne—nCrtV, this very
skimmer, and light by you. Your
blessed husband told John that your
lot was larger than he cared for, and
he had often thought of selling half of
it and John has bought it my birthday
present! Yes dear, and I shall have
half of this lovely yard, and one of
the apple trees, and an elo, yes dear,
and some of the golden 'glow, added
Dorothy, yes; and we will each have a
haminock under our own tree. I want
to plant the rambler by your 'porch,
and, Dorothy, dear, we shall be very
happy together, and nothing, not even
a fence shall come between us. But
to Dorothy there came the recollection
of the time when she first . met this
dear, motherly soul, ancl, flingnig her
arms about her neck, she whispered:
Oh Mrs Blake, it is all to beautiful—
but what if I hadn't worn my white
ribbon that day!
