A. POOR MAN'S FRIEND
(Jno. Beemer, Brant Co., Ont.)
I think alfalfa isthe poor man's friend:
I would not attempt farming such
rough hills as I have on my farm with
out it. In a good season we generally
cut the alfalfa on our side hills three
times, and get from two and a half to
three and a half tons of hay an acre in
the three cuttings: I have never found`
anything to take the place, of alfalfa
on clay hills.
In regard alfalfa have pastured
these hills so .close with cattle one
' would think it would be ruined, but
the next year it would grow as well as
Iever. I do not, however, consider this
plan good policy. Where you want to
I use the alfalfa for hay it is better not
to pasture too late in the season. The
alfalfa should have a chance to grow
la little for winter protection.
BOOST ONTARIO.
I(Tweed (Ont) News)
Our staid old business men and
moneyed citizens go about their duties
Ihere in a very methodic way, and they.
aro as almost quiet as the proverbial
clam: but let one of then land
himself out in Saskatchewan or Alberta
or British Columbia, and he begins to
I jump inthe air and holler loud enou-
gh to be heard all over America and
they shell; out their: money ing any
game that comes along. Ontario inen
make great boosters when they become
Westerners. The mystery is why they
can't do as much in Ontario. If we all
began to boost Ontario as much as we
are boosting outside places, Ontario
would be the greatest spot on the upper
side of the earth. And the old Pro-
vince is worth boosting.
