The Lord's Day .A.11ianee.-The an- nual meeting of the Lord,s Day All- iance was held in the basement of the James St. Methodist church on Thu- rsday last. There was a fairly good attendance, the several congregations in the town being represented. 'The Rev. Mr. Hannah, secretary of the Alliance, waspresent and delivered a most interesting and inspiring address descriptive of the work in which the Alliance is engaged and the good it accomplishes in the preserving of the Sabbath as a day of rest against the encroachments by legislation and otherwise by large corporations and others. Owing to a cave in of the Main et. sewer, residents along the side suffered considerably from the water which ca- me into their cellars. Provisions of all sorts were found floating around and was with difficulty secured and was obtainable by the putting on long rubber boots and wading in. Fur- nace fires were extinguished and coal submerged in water. In some inst- ances stoves had to be set up to avert the cold and dampness. Har- vey Bros. experienced some Incon- venience having to close down their grist mill for a couple of days, the water in the basement preventing the running of the inachinery; The old wooden sewer will no doubt be replac- ed by a more substantial one during the coining summer. of Shipka ladies started for Park41 via Haipley to go by itr.
