Mr. Fowler of Teeswater purchased
the;. farm owned. by Alex. McCrae, on

"What happened. to Jones" is the
title of a play put on by the local dra-
matic club and according to some crit-
ics was the best ever attempted by
the local club, but be that as it may
it drew full houses on two nights, Feb.
tet and 5th, and also at Ripley ou •the
8th. Each player acted their part well
and while in every play one or two
have a little heavier part than the rest
we do not think anyone could be,:plac-
ed very far above another. 'A dance
followed the play on each occasion,
with music by McKenzies Orchestra.
The orchestra also furnished music be-
tween acts, and Misses Mary Aitchi-
son

son and Martha, MacCallum sang, with
the result that a splendid evening's en-
tertainment was provided, and a nice
little surplus for the Memorial Park.

on Friday evening last, when a most

ong the Oddfellows and large numbers
are turning out, euchre, dominoes, lun-

winners were Mr. D. C. Taylor and
Mrs. A. Patterson.

Mrs.. Dr. Whitley and the Dr,, en-
tertained a number of their friends
to a dinner followed by cards on Fri-
day evening last, all were highly pleas-
ed at having spent a very enjoyable
evening.
Mr. Henry Townsend"passed away
on Monday morning about three
o'clock in his 88th year. He had en-
joyed good health until about a week
ago and had been engaged in splitting
wood, when he coniplainedof a feel-
ing of exhaustion: He..: gradually be-
came weaker until the end. He was
born in. Ireland and immigranted
with his parents to Stratford when
about nine years of age. He name to
Howick about ,fiftyyears ago, and
bought fifty acres of land on the -3rd
con. from T. Hicks, where he resided
Atli. a few years ago, His wife pre-
deceased him a number of years ago:'
Two sons, W. J. of Vancouver ",and:,
George on the old homestead and a
daughter Alice,. who has resided with
her father since he came to the vill-
age. Mr. Townsend was highly re-
spected by all who knew him. The.
funeral was held on Wednesday af-
ternoon. The remains being interred
in the cemetery here. Rev. J. . S,
Jones officated who had been his
clergyman, since Mr. Jones became
a member. of St. Johns.
