-Prominent Citizen Passed Away
on Sunday
It is haed for most of us to believe
that James G: Stewart will not be
again seen on Wingliam streets. He
passed to his Eternal Rest at his
home on Diagonal Road, on Stinday
afternoon after- a couple of days ill-
ness. He was in failing -health for
some time and he and 14rs. Stewart
spent last winter in California with a
view to building him up with a change
of climate.' On Thursday he was at
his office but went home early.
. Mr. Stewart intended acting as De-
puty .Returning Officer in W-ard, 2 in
the recent municipal election. He was
clerk of the Divisioa Court for the
past eight years and engaged, in the
real estate, and insurance business. He
served a year as, town treasurer and
was an active member of the Orange
Association under, whose-ausplees' the
*funeral waS'conducted on Wednesday
afternoon. to Winghani cefnetery. Ser-
vice was held in the Methodist Church
,and conducted by -the pastor, Rev. C.
E. Cragg. '
The late Mr. Stewart was born in
Bluevale and lived in this vicinity
practically all his life. He was a black
smith by trade and had shops at Bel -
more and Belgrave. He later conduc-
ted a hardware store at Wingham.
Besides his widow, he is survived by
one daughter, Mrs. A. J. Ferguson of
Auburn. Three brothers and two sis-
ters also survive, vix.: Mrs. Abram
Procter and Mrs. Martin Masters of
Morris; W. H. Stewart of Milton;
Thomas of Bluevale; and Dr. R. L.
Stewart of Winghaan. -
The -pall bearer a Were Messrs. T. J.
McLean, H. B. Elliott, W. j. Greer,
John Galbraith, A. H. Musgrove and
A. G. Smith.
Sneak Thieves Busy
Quite an amount of petty mean stea-
ling is going on itt the country adjac-
ent to Wingham. One evening recent-
ly when. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Doyle
were away from home their cellar was
entered and -alt their fruit taken. This
is very mean as it cannot be replaced
at this season of the year. We would
like to hear of ..such, sneak thieves
being_ caught and an example made of
them.
