Word was received in town on. Sun
day of the death of Mrs. Caird of Min-
neapolis. She was a former, resident
of Asfield for some years ago moved
to the States where,: she had' resided.
since. She .is survived by two child-

Mrs. Russ Johstone of town, her hus-
band predeceased her some years ago.
The funeral will be held on Wednes-

late Mrs. Webb who was in her both

and. an operation was decided upon.
She was taken to Wingham;Hospital
where the operation was performed,
and she appeared to be getting along

Thursday last a team consisting of
ten boys from the .,Wingliarn. High
School accompanied by Mr, 13racken-
bury and Mr. Schooley journeyed to
London to take part in the annual
rifle competition for the King's Cup,
a much prized trophy. sought after' by.
Cadet teams from all over. the British
Empire.
Favoured by ideal weather condit-
ions and inspired by the presence of
such military dignitaries as Maj. Gen
MacDonald, K. C 13., C.. M. G.,
D. S. O. commandant of the Royal
Military. College,, Kingston andBrig.
Gen, King, second in command in

Kinney, J. Field;' P. Johnston, A:.
Kelly and J, Carr, brought glory and
honor, not only -to themselves out to
their school and town by winiung
first place in the London.district in.
the team events and third place in the
individual scoring. G. K. MacDon-
ald and E. Purdon the ."crack" shots
tied for first place on the \Vingham
team. '
It, will: be some tithe: before the
boys. will hear of `their standing with
the teains frorn the other ranges for
the Cup but we trust that consistent
with. 'their policy, they will come out
on top.
Prior to: the presentation of 'file
prizes, the boys listened to interesting
and inspiring, addresses,' from Gen.,
King and Maj. Gen. MacDonald. The
former expressed the wish that when
the next international shoot for Cad-
ets is held in England that,the com-
petitors of: London district would re-
ceive a goodly share. of the prizes.
After the competition the officers
and cadets were"treated to a fine .lun-
cheon in Tecumseh Hotel. by the Ki-
wanis Club along; with Col. Gillespie
district.: Cadet Inspector; also Capt.
Fenton R. C:R. range -officer.
Although the boys are to be highly rm
complimented on' their very excellent
success much credit is also due to Mr.
