enenced radio manufacturers have been
working on the perfection of sill
portable receivers, A munber of new
tubes have been perfected 'which only
require a few small dry cells for suc-
ceseful operation, These tubes are
being successfully used be portable re-
ceivers which may be readily carried
out to summer camps.
During the •cool weather last week
some of the distant stations could be
beard very clearly, notably station W
OAW" of Omaha, Nebraska. The
Detroit News station "WWI" now
broadcasts the concerts of Sch-
aneman's Band from I3e11e Isle Park
each afternoon at 3 o'clock. In order
that people in other parks in the city
may be entertained at a mbrawn of
expense, the Detroit Park •Commiss-
ioners have installed receivers with
powerful loudspeakers in all the parks
under their control. Station "WJAZ"
of the Edgewater Beach Hotel of Chi-
eaga is one of the newer broadcasters

WhiCit COIllt'S, in good. The "Oriole
Oreheetra"is featured at this statioe
and their selections are confined to
popular inueic.
Radio is now being used regularly
for educetional purposes. At station
"WJZ", New York City, some of the
best authorities ori the various 6C11001
Subjects, appear before the micro-
phone and deliver lectures whicJ1 are
received simultaneously in. all the
echoolsin the eity. Schedules of stu,.
dies are so arranged that when the re
gularteaching period on that subject
is completed the loudspeaker is turned
on and a specialist addresses the class,
This method is being watched by ed-
ucationalists all ever the country.
A very fine pipe organ recital will
be sent out from station "WJAX" of
Cleveland. on Thursday evening, July
5th, at .8 o'clock, The wave length
will be 390 meters. The program will
consist of classical as well as popular
selections. On the same evening at
745 a special. French program will be
broadcasted from station "WGY" of
Schenectady. The songs will be in
French and all, the music will be of
the saine nature. This concert is be-
ing sent ottt especially for the people
of Quebec.

ertson, of Western University, to be
those of a mastodon which existed on
