This particular tourist is one of a
large, University travel party coming
mainly from Ohio, Missouri and Bos-

adian in the crowd of one hundred
• and twenty-five, but tonight two
ladies from Halifax joined us and in
the excitement of meeting a compat-
riot, Halifax seemed a stone's throw
from St. Marys. The party is divid-
ed into 'groups of about twenty each,
under the leadership of a University
Professor, who lectures on the history
and art of the places visited.
We sailed from Montreal on the

A Great Growth• .
The great growth in Western On-
tario this year has probably beaten all
previous records, from everywhere we
hear of extra ordinary sized veget-
ables and grairt. Last •week we told
of Mr. Cole's corn which was over
eleven feet in height. This vireek Mr.
Thos. Tayloi. of , East Wawanosh,
comes along with a stalk which stands
over twelve feet in height, where vvill
this end, is there someone who cart
produce corn that will go one better.
Both stalks have good ears of corn.
Mr. Taylor also left us a pea vine
which wheii •straightened out goes 3
nches over Mee feet, and arisither pea
vine over eight feet which branchee
out into two vine S near the centre.

The Town of Chester
It is my firm conviction that Chesn
ter must be the most interesting town
in England. To a history teacher it
is irresistable. The site of an old
Roman camp, it still has its high
stone wall encircling the older por-
kiest of the city. Around this, one
may walk and view below him the
River 'Dee which the Jolly Miller
made famous, aed which was the
last resting place of the unfortunate
Mary who went to "call the cattle
home amiss the Sands 0' Dee,'
Farther along the wall we come to

from the street by flights of 'steps.
These doubtless. are relics of the days
when the people retired to the second
storey or roof of their house to pour
down melted lead or stones on the
head of the invading enemy. Even the
Cathedral possesses a peculiar charm.
We have visited some fifteen cathe-

that Chester gave, probably because

of the tattered and thread -bare flag
which wrapped Wolfe's body at Que-
bec? Or of the huge blue flag which
flew at the battle of Jutland? Or of
the standards carried by the Cheshire
regiments in the Crimea? These and
many others bang over the altars of
the South transept of Chester.
Off to Scotland ,
At Chester our small group was
joined by a large party and we /eft
for Scotland, stopping on the way to
see the beautiful ruins of Furness Ab-
bey. The English Lake District were

enchanting. It seems to be one of
the parts of England Which has been
kept free from the bustle of factories
and railroads. • One travels through
the mountains and over the splendid
