All the clauses of report with the exception of the es mates, however, had received asse After adjournment of the council representative of the Adams Co., w had addressed the council' in the a ernoon on; the subject of graders, p on some moving pictures of th machinery in action, which were ve interesting. On Wednesday morning the cle announced that he had' received t additional applications as county v uator: Thos. J. kfcLean, :. Wingha and C. A. Macdonell, Hensall. Under the heading of enquiries, M Livingstone asked who had the a pointment of patrol men, and Beattie said the matter was gener ly attended to'by the engineer. Mr. Henneberg asked when a how the matter of equalizing the vi age of Wroxeter could be taken u as considerable property had recent been removed from that village a attached to Turnberry. and Howie The three reeves concerned we advised to meet and arrange the ma ter' before the rates were struck. The matter of readjustment of th Village of.Bayfield rates, it was r quested, should be dealt with sim larly. Mr. Moser brought up the matt of the Saltford Hill work and su gested that a retaining wall shoul be built on the river side to preve accidents. The, chairman was , r quested to takthis matter up wit the commission. Mr. Geiger spoke of he progres made as to'putting up of • dange signs, as ordered last session. He was informed that the order for the signs were given and the would soon be in position. Mr. Middleton asked if any est mate had been made of the Saltfor Hill espenditur The engineer too the matter up iv his report, and als the estimates as presented in th Good Roads Commission's ,report. The council went into committee o the whole to define the remuneratio and duties of the county valuators t be appointed to equalize the assess ments of the different municipalitie of the county. After some discussio it was decided to refer the matter t the special committee. Under the heading of enquiries Mr Armstrong asked ' particulars regard ing the Provincial Road as to th contract being'let or ' not and th amount of the contract, and Mr. Mi dleton replied that the contract fo five miles had been let but' that n urther particulars were, available. A.heated discussion !ensued, Mr McQuaid waxing eloquent in his' de unciation of the tactics of the quar who had gone around with th etition to get the pavement laid this ear, characterizing them' as four ueddlesome men, who •had even de- cended to the use of falsehood. He itliiculed the need of a cement pave- ent from Goderich to Clinton just ecause Goderich was going Ito have centennial' celebration next year.' nd claimed that in opposing it he -as acting in the interests of the ural municipalities, who paid the seater part of the cost. • McKillop owiiship, for instance, paid $533 lore than the towns of Goderich, Linton and Seaforth, combined. Reeve Middleton resented some of e' personal references to himself nd pointed out that the council in anuary had passed two resolutions, ne to have the work, when it was one, done in one year. This was oved by Mr. Livingstone and him - If, and this was what was desired, s to the other resolution, asking for e deferring of the work, he urged at -it was good business to get the ork done while the Province was ying 8o per., cent. of the cost. It as not likely-' that the percentage ould always be available, The road ould stop short of Clinton, which ould. have to.pay for the paving of mile itself. Mr. Hayes expressed his opposition the pavement. Mr. Munnings pointed out that his ason for supporting the move for e pavement was that it was good siness for the county, which was ging $9,000 a year for the upkeep the road now. After paying inter - on the cost to the'county of build - the 'pavement, say $2,250, there uld still be an annual saving of 750 a year or $35,000 in five years. s the hour of it o'clock had been shed; further debate on the ques- ta was adjourned to Thursday ruing, the council adjourning till a. in. on Thursday, to allow the miters to get their dinner and get cy to the joint tweeting and sports with Brune C6trnty council at sardine, th tort of Kincardine sti- ad SO a by n ar- es' ay ill the. ti - at, a. ho uta eir ry rk wo al- a, r. p-. iVIr. al- nd” 11- P, ly nd Howick re t- e e- er g - d nt e- h s r s d li 0 e f n 0 ni11n1111U1 Ionwootoiri11111 sins IIrillmllsin ris ie,s! . ...,...,. r -- Phone 59 Groceries & Chinaware m a OUR 85e BLACK e TEA,al The Quality of this Tea is al al ready well .known.
