AUTOS IN ONTARIO
The Hon. G. S. Henry has been
saying some nice things about the On-
tario Motor League, and its work
certainly deserves these. It has been
working not only in the interests of
automobilists, but also in those of the
public; one great and persistent effort
which it is remaking is to prevent as
far as it can the terrible accidents
That its work is required is well
which are constantly occurring.
shown by what can be called the mar-
vellous increase of autos in Ontario.
Mr. Henry says that no development
has been so great in this province as
the use of the motor car. He claims
that it has revolutionized social life,
particularly in the rural districts. In
1903, the first year that there had
been a registration of motor cars in
Ontario, 2,20o cars had Veen register-
ed, while in 1925. there were 303,000.
Registration of motor trucks had its
inception, in 1916, -when 2,70o were re-
gistered. Last year there were 34,-
69o. In 1924 the department had iss-
ued 102 permits for motor buses tra-
velling over a fixed route on a fired
schedule, and in 1925 there were 216
permits issued, showing the rapid de-
velopnient in this mode of travel. In
1904, which was the first year that
the province had collected fees from
motorists, the revenue from, this sour-.
ce was x,68o, as against , $5,638;000
collected in 1925. There is evidently
plenty of scope left yet for the good;
work of the Ontario Motor League;
