Wouldst marry that girl—
Young Man?
Take this Advice!
Get on speaking terms
With her Father.
Engage him in a game of
Checkers and Let him
Beat you.
Or—if poker is his
Favorite pastime, see that
He collects all the dhips
No matter what it costs you.
If he smokes, see that
He gets all 'V.he Cigars he
Can 'burn up. Even if you
Have to hoid'out an a•
,Occasional box of candy
On your girl.
Take him out for a game
Of golf. If he makes the
First hole in 7o, see
That you make it in 75.
Be sure to remind him of --
"What a whale of a player"
He is!
Flatter his car even if
It is ready for the junk heap.
Tell him it "runs srnoother'n
Silk" though it sloes the
Daylights out of you while
Saying so.
Never argue' with him or make
The mistake of calling,
Him "a liar,'......If he says
"The World Court is where the
International tennis matches
are held and that Florence
Italy is the maiden name of
a famous actress"—
Remember—he's right, you're
Wrong! .
Keep telling him how you
Admire his brilliance and just
When you've got both his head
And chest swelling with pride
And he's smiling,: say:
"Dad—May I marry
your daughter?"
Then --
Boy! She's Yours!
SHE'S YOURS!

FRUITS
By Dr, Arthur L. Forster
The net result of any •expenditure
of effort is generally spoken of as: the
"fruit of that effort," Thus we speak
of the "fruits of labor," and so on. In
like manner' we speak of the product
form of sugars (cane sugar, grape su
gar, fruit sugar).
Many fruits also contain organic
acids, • such, as mallic acid in apples,
citric acid in lesions, and so en.
Mineral matteris an important con-
stituent of many fruits. For example,
dried fruits, like prunes, dates, raisins,
and figs, are fairly rich in iron, cal -
churl. and phosphorus.
The ,flavor of fruits is due to their
sugars, acids, and the "ethereal" oils
they contain. It is these ethers and
oils that, extracted by a chemical pro-
brought forth by a plant as "its fruit," cess, make up he fruit "flavors' and
and this fruit contns within itself the "extracts" with which we are all fa
seed that will reproduce other similar miliar.
Digestibility of Fruits
The digestibitty of fruits varies
with the kind and manner of prepara-
tion. As a rule, stewed fruits are
more digestible than raw fruits. In-
dividual idiosyncrasy also has consid-
erable to do with it. Some people
can't eat half a banana' without be-
coming- ill, others can eat a dozen and
plants.
Fruits, in other words, are to the
plant domain what offspring are to
the animal kingdom, Hence—all seed -
bearing portions of plants are, cor-
rectly .speaking, fruits, and this in-
cludes suchproducts as olifes, mel-
ons and tomatoes; often referred to
as vegetables.
