These were drawn on Thos, Saints' one horse dray with Tom himself at the helm. The parade wended their way to the park where a soft ball game was -play- ed. In. the afternoon another procession headed by the Hamilton Salvation Army Band and the Scotchmen from the lake, paraded to the park, In the procession were'the High School Ca- dets, the members of.the Fire Bri- gade, Scoutmaster Posliff and his boy scouts and the ball teams of Kincar- dine . and Wingham, who played a gamesof hardball; at 3 o'clock. The latter winning,. by a rather one sided score, R. A. Currie and D.. Somers were the umpires., Lieut Col. Gillespie of London in- spected,the scouts at the park. Several hun- dred of the hooded brethren took part in the proceedings. Several enthusias- tic addresses were delivered and about fifty candidates were initiated in the evening, after which a large wooden cross was burned on the fair grounds. Morris Iesident Passes The residents of this comirtunity ;were shocked' when they learned of the sudden death Sunday night of Margaret McCall, wife of Joseph Beevley, of 'the eighth line, Morris Township. Deceased was the daugh- ter of .Mrs. McCall and the late Alex. MeCall, of the seventh lute, Morris, and had been a lifelong resident of the township, BeSides hes husband she is survived by three small children. George A. McCall and Thomas C, of Brussels, Alex I., of Chatham, Samuel of Tor- onto, and Simpson of Morris Town - slip, are brothers. The funeral ar- rangetfients have not been completed. The Late Roland Beattie A former resident of Wingham, passed away at his home in Alliston on May 2.xst, in the peison of Roland Beattie. Deceased was in his 65th year and was born in Tuckersmith, near Seaforth. In company with his brother, Robert, he conducted a liv- ery and bus business in Wingham for about fourteen years. For the past twenty years he has conducted a large coal and wood business in Allis- ton. Besides his widow, he is sur- vived by one son, Mac. The funeral to Alliston Cemeter3r on S'enda.y was largely attended. The services were Married In Stratford An interesting event took place at St Peals Rectory, Stratford, on Sat- urday afternoon, May 2end., when Miss Myrtle E Shackleton, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Shac- kleton of Wingham, was • united in marriage to Mr. James R. Miscue; son of Mr. and Mrs, J. H. Mieener of Stratford. Rev. W. Snell, per- forming the ceremony. The bride was prettily gowned in Powder blue flat silk crepe with silver trimming and hat to =tell and carried a bouquet of Sweetheart Roses. Miss Rilla Misen- r was bridesmaid and Mr. J. L. Drury assisted the groom. Andrew Linklater Passes On A fine old man who was esteemed by all who keew him was Andretv Linklater, who passed to. his Eternal Rest on Tuesday, May 25the at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. T. Elliott, Victoria St, Wingharn, at the ripe old age of 86 years. The funeral will be held to Wingham Cemetery on Thursday afternoon, A further obituary notice will ap- pear in our next issue. Salvation Army Band The Hamilton Salvation Army Band motored up and sPent a pleasant week end in Wingham. They treated the people of ethis vicinity to some very fine music. Meetings were held in the town hall and on St Andrew's Pres- byterian Church lawn. The men are a fine lot of fellows atid they scatter sunshine and good deeds along their pathways. The local officers' vvish to thank those who so kindly opened their homes to the menibers of the band and are glad to be able to report a surplus of about $5o, after the motor bus rent and other expensei were paid lor. The Lions Minstrel Show The Goderich people who put 'on the 'Minstrel Show on 'Wednesday night gave the very small audience a really egad show with several new songe and witty jokee or. local people, a few of which might have been bet- ter left unuttered. The troope composed of a very fine lot of busie ness men of the county town and, we believe they should have beetz greeted with a much larger house. The Lions Club of Wingham have -reason to he discouraged in their uedettaking as they will be considerably out ot their -concert. A few of the members end their' wives treated the visitore to a lunch in the C'otincil Chamber after the show. Beckett was formerly Miss Jenn- ie Kerr of Minnie St. and was here with her son aed daughter and uncle John Karr, when the remains of her uncle, t ie late Mr. Geotge Kerr, were interred six weeks ago. Mrs. A. E. Lloyd has retureed home from. Edtleonton, Alta., where she was called, by the death of her only bro- ther, William H. Dixon, who died in the Royal Alexander Hospital, Ed.- moriton, April 2T, 1026. Mr. and Mre, Dixon resided in Witerharn for number of years, going West in xeo8.
