son. She svas born ito the Township
, of Gavillitisbury on Dec. 35, 1841 -and

Toronto, She was the last of the Sel-
geirk settlers, Her early life was
in Gevillinsbury [incl. Bradford'
about sixty years ago, she came with
her uncle and grandinother, 'the late
.Adam McKay and mother, to East
Vawanoshe 12th con. In 1869 retired
tO Wingham and in March 16, 1871
was married. to her now ,bereft hus-
band and `came to the fiirrn where she
sinceresided.

ence,. The chairman, Dr. Petrie, ga-
ve a short but impressive address on
the life and character of St. Patrick.
'The play' entitled aThe Spinster's
Convention," was very humorous,
with, each character taking- ber part
well. These spinsters formed a So-
ciety called the "YOung Ladies Single
Blessedness Society, in order to, in
some way or method get a man. How-
ever, a maxs happened'. along at one of
their metatings, and told them he had.

Following the play was a drill by
twelve little galas dressed in Irish cos-
tume. Lunch vkas then served by the
ladies of the congregation and the ev:.

In giving auy statement of the ex-
act 'situation of the congregations of
the former, Presbyterian Church M
Canada one has to bear M mind the
distinction between congregations 'and
pastoral clairges. In the terms of
The United. Church of Canada Act, a,
congregation means a worshipping
unita or single preaching station, whi-
le a charge may be composed of one,
or a 'bomber of such congregations.
L7nder the provision of the Act the vo-
te on the question of union was taken
by congregations and not charges. In
this statement, therefore, the figures
deal with congregations rather than'
charges, because a great nuinber of`
charges divided on the question of un -
tom part entering- union and part vot.

the 'Wleigham United Church last Fri-

was however enough foie all. -The list

ed anti responded to. The timely and
interesting addresses by Mrs...Cumm-
ings of St Helens was well received.
The musical number, the community

atly to the evening's enjoyment The
men s‘erved as waiters, they looked
nifty with towels on their arms.
'In order to relieve the worry of the
ladies the' men before serving the, ta-
bles marched in single file around. the

banquet of the kind the church has
enjoyed. From its success it will

Henry Wheeler Goae Home
A God fearing arid highly esteemed
old gentleman was Mr. Henry Wheel-
er who passed to his reward. on Tues-
day, March 16th., at his home M
Winglunt after a feNV days illness, He
was in his 781h year and had bean a
resident of Turnberry for a long time
before retiring to live in Wingharn.
The late Mr. Wheeler was an enthusi-
astic member of the Salvation Army
and the funeral services will be held
in the Salvaton Army Citadel on
Theasday afternoon at 2.15 and will
be coaducted by A.dj, Porter of 'Tor-
onto, who will also tondact a memor-
ial service in the Citadel on Sanday
night.
Besides his widow the late Mr.
'Wheeler is survived by eight of a fa-
mily viz: Mrs. Wright of JaMestown,
Mrs. Will Reid of Winghate, George
and Arthur of tear Bluevale, Thomas
of Turnberry, Peter arid Ensign Mar-
garet of I-Iamilton. and Mrs. Fred
Hogg of Tureberry,
