late James C ,eaham, and carne to Un-
ited States when fifteen years of age.
At the age of thirty he carne to live
in Canada, and for sixty-one years he
has been a resident of Wingham. He
has been prominent in the affairs of
-the town. In 1872 he started the
•Win'gham'Times and published it for
.several years.
THE ARENA CARNIVAL
The Carnival on Monday was a

the holiday visitors. Consider-
ing the many attractions which 'lee
billed for this week, there was not a
very large attendance, but the man-
agement are satisfied with .the result.
It is the intention of putting on a
high class Carnival some time in the
month of February when all those
who are to take part will have to ma-
ke an entry or will not be eligible to
compete for prizes. There are too
many coming with a mask or false
face and expect to be classed as one
of the contestants.
However the results in the differ-
ent events are es follows:— ,

The donations were all suitable pri-
zes and were very acceptable. The
Torun Band furnished music for the
evening, nd the skating was enjoyed
by all.
The judges were Alva Fleming, H.
Finlay, H, C. lefacLean.
Every person should keep in mind
and 'reserve this date, Jan. 25th, for
Burns Anniversary. A grand concert
will be put on in aid of the Arena.
High class 'talent is being secured.
The late R. A. Graham
He was an honest and upright man,
an elder for many years in St. And-
•rew's Presbyterian Church, and a
splendid writer. Until a few years ago
he has continued to write for the Tr
-
Ines and his articles were always very
bright.
The 'late 'Mr. Graham was twice mar-
ried, his first wife died in 1878, and
'his second wife .in x892. He•is sur-
'•vivedby four' sons and .three daught-
ers, viz.: -James .of :Coniston, Malcolm
of Forest, Frank of Detroit. Thomas
Elizabeth,.Mary and Beatrice of Wing:
ham,
Mr. Graham was particularly heal-
thy man, and although he had long
since passed the allotted span he has
rnever really been sick until seized
.with pneumoriia about a week ago.
The; funeral will be held to Wing -
:ham cemetery on Friday. afternoon,
New Years :Day. "
:Mrs. Herdsman is Dead
There passed away in Wingham on
'Thursday, Dec. 24th, Rachel Mallagh,
twidow of the late Richard Herdsman,
:in her 91st year. Deceased was a
much beloved lady who leaves many
-staunch friends. She was born in the
.Coufety of Armagh, Ireland, in the
year r835, and came to Canada in the
year 1871. After spending three years
in Woodstock, she was married to Ri-
chard Herdsman, and carne to Wing-
atom, where she started in the millin-
ery business and built the block at
present owned by. Mr. It; Carter. She
sold her business about thirty-five
years ago,: and lived for a few years
In Niagara Falls. . She returned to
Winghatn'; and bought :the residence
,oft Slitter St., now owned by Mr. A.

been living with Miss Clow on Centre
St. where she hasbeen tenderly cared'

Annual "At Home"
The annual "At Horne" of the Hur-
on—Old Boy's Association of Toronto
will be held in Oddfellows Temple,
229 College Street on''Tltursday even-
ing, January 2est., 1926. Bridge, En -
etre and Dancing will be the main
features of the evening's ' entertain-
ment. The proceeds of the evening
will be in aid of Huron County Hos-
pitals. '

Three Huron Publishers Die
Last week we chronicled the death
of Mr. Aitcheson, editor 'of the Clif-
ford, paper. This week we have to
report the death of Rev. James Fred-
erick Snowden ,the editor of the Sea -
forth News and Mr, John W. Van -
atter, the editor of the Goderich Star.
The former was born in Kincardine

On Wednesday evening
of this week the first hoe--

and Wingham, resulted in a
win for the visitors by ra

was as close as thescore
would indicate, although
with a little more team play
the score might have been
reversed.

rang, Wingham tied the

team was able to find the

The third period opened
fast with Seaforth, scoring

Mr. Chas. Cook was the successful
bidder at the Tax Sale conducted at
the Clerk's Office on Monday. He
secured a portion of the former
Wardsman property for .payment of
arrears of taxes and costs amounting
