HURON COUNTY COUNCIL The December session of the Huron county council opened on Tuesday afternoon, Dec. ist„ the Warden in the chair and members all present. , A conuuunication from the Ontario Motor League with reference to the county passing a bylaw to compel all vehicles to Farry lights at night 'on our highways, was=referred to the spe- cial committee. A stateinent from the Education Department of the grants. to Huron County, continuation schools was fil- ed. The grants'. were as follows: Blyth, $894.77; Brussels, $888.8o; Wroxeter, $868.85; Fordwich (No. 17 Howick), $817.95; Hensall, $85a. The following sums were asked for, as per statute, for maintenance of County of Huron pupils at London Collegiates: Central Collegiate, $225.- 38; South London Collegiate, $74.58; London Technical School, $12,45; tot al,. $312.45. The Departmental grants to the various High Schools hi the County are as 'follows: Wingham, $1,41o,67; Seaforth, $1,6o4.5o; Clinton, '$1,475; Exeter, $1,448.39; Goderich, $x,818,5o. Claimssv':for damages sustained: on county nighways were received' from Messrs. I. R. Carling, Exeter; I'fc- Nay, Wawanosh; M. W. Howell, Goderich, and .Xobert Stewart, and were sent to the Good Roads Com- mission. The latest list for November, of Huron County beneficiaries, under the Mothers'. Allowance Act; shows 44 persons. receiving the allowance, with a totalcllargeable to the county of $7r2.5o, being 5o per cent. of the total received. The monthly pay- ments average•about the same and represent an expenditure for the whole year of about $4,5oo for the county. During the recess the work of re- wiring the court house was complet- ed, the tender, with extras, amount- ing .to $729. Mrs. Griffin is still making `claim for consideration for salary she claims is due her as jail matron. 'A communication from the turnkey at the jail asked for the providing of some rooms in the jailor some mone- tary consideration in lieu ''thereof. The clerk read:an explanation of the chief causes of the increase in the cost of the administration of justice in the county and presented figures to show that the increase was chiefly due to increased cost in four branches, Add the yolks of/eggs beaten slight- ly. The matter was left over for next year's council. Mr, Weston asked, for information with reference to any action by the Good Road Commission as to the Bayfield hill on the south side of the bridge. Chairman McQuaid said a retaining wall .might have to be built. Mr. Weston also asked for infor- niation as to any action that had been taken as to Bayfield bridge, and the chairman replied that, while the brid- ge was narrow, there 'were other pla ces on the sari" road which needed: more immediate attention. A motion fora grant of $5o to the Exeter Junior Farmers' Plowmen's Association was sent to the executive committee. The council then adjourned, to meet on Wednesday morning at g o'clock.
