Serve New Beets Prettily and
•Differently
Method: Cook the beet greens until
tender. ,Cook the beets until tender,
Chop the greens very l fine. Season
with butter, pepper, and salt. • Press
well into a buttered ring mould. Un -
mould on platter, Fill center with
small new beets, seasoned well.
Trim outside edge with thin slices of
hard boiled eggs.

Good for Soup
Cut the rib -end off of a rib -roast,
This makes delicious soup. When
the end is roasted with meat it is
practically wasted.
• Peach Butter
Peaches—Peck or peck of peaches.
Sugar—Little less than peach bulk,
Method: Stone, skin avid mash pea-
ches. Add little less sugar than. pea-
ch bulk, Cook very slowly 3 or 4
hours until done, This is easy to tell
as they .become darker and more set-
tled looking in the pan. This peach
butter is excellent for short cake or

clean duster and rub in dry powdered
borax. Then rub it over soiled spots
on paper.
To Take Off Lacquer
When freshening a brass bed where
part of the lacquer has worn off, the
rest of the lacquer may be removed
by sponging with alcohol.

4 cups of sugar
Little water.
2 pounds of grapes,
Method: Make a syrup, Cover su-
gar with just enough water to moist-
en it. Cook until syrup threads. Then
add grapes (seeded) and boil until
transparent,

Tomatoes.
Corn (uncooked)
Butter.
Bread crumbs,
Bacon if desired.
Method: Slice off ends of tomatoes.
Scoop out centers. Cut corn off cob,
Cook for a few minutes with little to-
mato pulp. Pill centers with corn
moistened with • tomato. Top with
bread crumbs and butter, Bake in
hot Oven Until crumbs are brown and
tomatoes are cooked. Serve on
rounds of buttered toast. Pour over
any pan tomato juice. Garnish with

one inch wide tightly around the rim
of a pie, This is especially helpful
while baking a berry pie *

the severe electrical storms last week,
Mr, Wm, Purdon had a calf killed and
the roof of Mr, J. D. Beecrofts Louse
was also struck with lightning.
Miss Isabel Switzer of St. Matys,
spent the week -end at the home of
MA and Mrs, Mae Ross,
Miss Evelyn Gaunt left last week to
take a business course in Owen Sound
Business College,
Mrs. Richard Westbrook of. Mount
k Bridges and Mr. and Mrs. Chas.
Harris of Komoka visited with the
former's sister, Mrs. Jas. Cornelious.
They also visited with Mrs. Matt.
Shackelton of Crewe.
Mr, Charlie Leaver is attending
London Fair this week.
