Mrs. 'Wm, Jardine and baby daugh-
ter left on Monday afternoon for
their home at Tugaske, Sask., accom-
panied by Mrs. Jardine's mother,
Mrs, Robt. Cathers.
Mr. and Mrs. T- M. White and Mr.
Appleyard motored from Dunvihe for
the week end. Mrs. White remained
with Mr, White's parents for a few
days then visited in Toronto before
returning home.
Mr. W. Gregg, C. P. R. engineer,
and Miss Nora, arrived from Moose -
jaw on Monday night' to spend a few
days with Mrs. Gregg's sister, Mrs.

Ata Meeting of the Directors of
the Huron Plowmen's Association at
Brussels on Friday last, the date of
the annual plowing match - was set
for October 8th,
Mrs. (Dr.) Whitley left Saturday
last for a trip to Winnipeg, Port Ar-
thur and Hanley, Sask. She was ac-
companied by her sister, Mrs. Wm.
Macdonald, of Chesley and her nep-
hew Mr. 5, C. Macdonald,
Mr, and Mrs, A. Welsh, Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Greer and son Jack, of
Toronto and Mr. and Mrs. W. J.
Greer, of Wingham, were guests of
Mr. and Mrs. H, V, Holmes, on Mon-
day.,
The sympathy of the community is
extended to R. J. Hueston and family
of Gorrie in the death of Mrs. Hues -
ton. Her maiden name was Margaret
Ann Sanderson. She was born in
'Howicic 53 years ago and was married
to R. 5. Hueston twenty-five years
ago. The deceased had been a pat-
ient sufferer for the past few years.

Lightning Bolt Hits Car Fender
Mr.; A. E. Smith, principal of the
Wiarton public school, had a thrilling
experience last Tuesday evening
when, as he was.motoring from Wi-
arton to Owen Sound, a bolt of light -
Meg, just grated the car, causing the
fenders on one side of the car to
tarn blue. The road was torn up for
a distance of some 15 feet by the

R. B. McGowan, who has been clerk
of the village -for a great many years,
has resigned owing to ill -health, and
it is
expected that James D. Moody
will receive the appointment.
The rains of the past few days have
done considerable good to the grow-
ing crops, as owing to the dry season
the grain and hay have been on the
short side.
• The Girls' Sewing Club was all rea-
dy for their street dance on Wednes-
day night, but on account of the hea-
vy rains thdy had to adjourn to the
hall, where the dance was held in-
doors. There was a splendid attend-
ance and the music, supplied by the
Towne Orchestra, of Wroxeter, was
good.

Mr, Joyce, son of the proprietor of
the Joyce United Amusements, who
showed on the Exhibition Grounds
four days of last week was summons-
ed to police court on Saturday morn-
ing to answerr a charge of assault laid
by a*young fanner of Flesher'ton. It
appears that the Fleshertoniann had .a
ride am the Merry-go-round and when
Ile could not find his ticket but said
he would either produce the ticket or
tefi cents when he got off, The inci-
dent led to words with young Joyce
who hit the Flesherton man three
times, Magistrate Toltort; Richardson.
and Mayor Goode who sat on the
case ruled that Joyee's retaliation was
certainly excessive in handing out
three stiff pokes, even if he did get
soni:e abuse, They fined him fifteen
dollars and costs, annountieg in all to
