DISEASE. AMONG BEES
Owing' to the rather' Serious otrt'
break of American Foul i3r od in the
bees of this County and particularly
_ that section lying between Goderich,
Auburn' anct Clinton, we think it ad-
lisable that the public should know.
N more of its serious nature.
This disease if: unmolested will soon
wipe Oaf whole apiaries and spread
rapidly ;from .beeyard .to beeyard. The
disease spreads chiefly by owners not
knowing the disease and the selling
of colonies from yard to yard, with-
out being inspected.
All beekeepers should accivaint
themselves with the Bee Diseases
Act of 192o. Following are some of
the clauses that shotilcl be observed by
all bee owners,.
Clause 4—The inspector may order.
the owner or possessor:. of any bees
dwelling iam box or immovable frame
hives to transfer thein to Movable
frame hives within a specified time
and in default the inspector niay des••
troy, or order the destruction of such
hives and the bees dwelling therein.
Clause 5 -Where an infectious or
contagious disease exists in an apiary
the owner or possessor- thereof shall
not sell, barter, give away or remove
from the premises any bees or Used
apiary appliances or apparatus until
he has secured a certificate from the
Provincial
Provincial Apiarist that such: bees„1
used apiary appliances or apparatus,
have been properly disinfected and are
free from disease.. •
3—Every person who contravenes
the provisions of subsection i or of
subsection 2 of this section shall be
guilty of an offence and shall incur a
penalty of not less than $5o nor More
than $foo.
'Clause 6—Any- person whose bee's
have been destroyed or treated for
Foulbrood, who.sells or offers for sale
any bees, hives or appurtenances -of
any kind, after such destruction . or
treatment, and before being authoriz-
ed by the inspector to do so, or who
exposes in his bee yard, or elsewhere,
any infected comb, honey or other in-
fected thing, or conceals the fact that
said disease exists among his bees,
shall incur a penalty of not less. than
San and not more than $soy or he May
be imprisoned for a term..not exceed-
ing two nnonths,
It is no disgrace to get Foul Brood
in your yard. but it is a disgrace to
keep it there,
Huron County bees produce honey
enough each year to pay for the main
.tenance andr'epair•s of our County
Highways. Let us not: lose this re-
in -venue.
