noelt was knocked down by an auto
driven by Mr. Jos. Chamney's son,
Cecil. Gordon's hand' weat through
the lens on the auto; and the flesh
was badly torn, he also received sev-
eral bruises and a bad shaking np,
He Was rushed to the -Hospital where
he received. the best attention and we
ate pleased to say, was able to be re-
moved to his home on Sunday mottl-
ing,
An eye witness informs us that had
the auto not been going slow aCthe
time, ese box would most likely have
been killed:
Another slight mishap occurred On
Diagonal Road near Victoria St.
when Mr. Grasby's auto ran into Mr.
McKinney's Ford Coupe.

The London Advertiser has discon-
tinued sending out travelling collect-
ors for their subscriptions,.' They are
leaving the taking of subscriptions en-
tirely with the local paper and book
sellers. For some . time past when
collectors called and were told, that
they would renew their paper when in

would spin a yarn that the paper
would sootier subscribers paid their

Whigheni Council was held on Mon-
day evening. Mayor Willis was in the
chair and all the cot -mail were present

Mr. Fells reported that the street
committee had puretasecl a ton of cal-
cium chloride and tised. about hall or

The by-law No. 937, a by-law to
Provide for the borrowing of $28,000
to build an addition to the Wingliain
High School and equipment, was
passed on the second reading and the
by-law is printed in another column
of this paper. By-law No. 938, a by-
law to provide for the taking of the
vote, by deciding on polling booths and
the appointment of DRO., and Poll
Clerks was read three times and pass-
ed, Iy also appears in this issue.
By-law No. 939 authorizing the
closing of that part of Albert $t. situ-
ate between •Water St. and Minnie St.

Mr. Wilkinson, chairman ,of •the fire

hose, 350, feet, had been'secured from

Will Build Reservoir
The Wingham. Utilities Commission
have given the contract for building
the addition 'to the present reservoir
to -Mr. Robe. Vint, his being the low-
est tender of eight. The addition to
the reservoir is being made in the hope,
that it will -not be necessary to drill
another well. at the present time. The
new reservoir will be of cement with
a 98,000 gallon capacity, just the size
Of. the present OT1C, and will be built
beside it. .
An Aritlered'Dweller of the Wild.
On a eecent morning Mr. Henry
Mathers, who lives about four miles
west of •Wingliam on tile Lucktiow
road; was 1z -tech surprised to see a
buck deer feeding in one of his fields.
The animal was apparently in good
condition an had antlers about half
grown' but still in "the velvet", It ap-
pearedlittle concerned at the sight 62
man, but when it saw a: dog tit scam-
pered -away. to safer territory. The
deer shmild have a good time in the
hay and oat fields as it pays little
heed to the fences.

from Buffalo for her va.cation.
Mrs. Wm. Wightman of La Re-
viere Man., and Afes. Harry Hyde of
Westlotk, Alberta are renewing ace

We are glad to have Mr. R. James
back in Wingham. Mrs. James is
looking well after spending the past
year at the home eefs her daughter in
Cleveland, Ohio. Mrs. James was ac-
companied home by her great grand-
son, Master jellies R. Macey.
Mr. Charles Knechtel of lefeafoed,
is busy shaking hands svith 61el ac-
quaintances this week. Mr. Knechtel
is greatly interested in the appearance
of the new war memorial and has $25
to give toward a fund to k.eep the
terraces neatly trimmed and for flow-
ers.

enjoyed their trip very much but
found train seredee not so good as
many trains are cut off for the sem-

It was the decision of the meeting
to permit the ladies to take charge of
their own organization and also to al-
low Goderich and Wingharn towns to
rneet ated choge their own chairmen.
Mr. William Campbell the esteem-
ed veteran was present from Gode-
rich. Mr. Joynt, M. P. P. said it was
Mr. Campbell who saw to it that his
name was on the voters list for the
first time, and that was -when Sir John
A. MaeDonald's National Policy
was introduced, 47 years ago.
Speeches were delivered by Mr,

Spotton, Mr. H. J. A. MacEwen, Mr.

The following changes have bee.n

The floor area charge has been dis-
continued and instead a net service
charge of 3oe per month to al con-
sumers will be made. The first -6o'

at 5vand, all additional at 20. These
changes in domestic rates willmean a
reduction in cost of Hydro te 85 per
cent. of the domestic consumers.

at 5325 lbs each and although there
were over 4,400 head of cattle on the
Monday market he again got 'the top
price ivhich he has done for several
years now, The 6 head netted their
owner $625.00 and he. certainly de-

• Mr.' Jas.. H. Caseraore of Morris;
who has been in the honey business
for the past twenty-four years ad-
vises those wishing honey to do so
right away. He explains that owing
to the very dolt' winds of April and
May that bees would often be seen
to fall down in the grass near their

were too weak to make honey in any

The third rate in power has changed
from. .15 to .5. This change will °fleet

advance of about one to two per cent.
In explanation of the upward' ten-
dency in Hydro rates we would like
to state that this is due to an addition-
al $g5o,000 which the Gregory Com-
mission decided -shotild be paid by the
Hydro Electric -Power Commission of
Ontario. •
Successful Garden Party
The Garden Party put on by the
Winghatn Lawn Bowling Club in the
park on Friday evening was a big sae -
cess, financially and otherwise. The
program was splendid and consisted

A. H. Wilford, Mr. Chris, Templeman,.
Mr.'Bert Abell, Mr, A. M. Forbes and
Mayor Willis Scotch dancing by Miss-
es Margaret and Bettie Taylor, instru-
mental' by Miss Thelma Gibson, ad-
dress,' by Mr. Geo, Spotton, Miss Bes-
sie Abell was the accompanist. The
booth and the dancing pavillion did a
good business.
