the .Boards which , investigated the

holding on to a vine at a'place where.

hole, `although .he had been previously
war'ned'of his. danger. Finally he slip-
ped off the bank, and letting go of the
vine plunged into the hole,' I£ing's
Scut Ding at once went to his rescue
and after a struggle succeeded in get-
ting the boy ashore.
As is oten'the case, no one went to
Scout King's assistance, and if it had
not •been for his courage; promptness
and skill there is rio doubt tliat.the boy
would have been drowned.

In 'making ingiairies into the cause
of the high slate of child mortality or
deaths of young children, there must
be several factors taken into account.
One of these is carelessness on the part
of the parent or guardian. Many
deaths of children occur from slick 'a
simple reason; pas the 'nether careless'
ly leaving a pail of water on the floors

from scalding results. Mortality of

S. White, Scoutmaster, attached to
Emerald Street Methodist Church, won
the A. T. Enlow Cup for, general pro-
ficiency in Scout work, atendauce, etc.,
in a recent Competition ii which all
Hamilton district trogps 'participated.
The cup was handed over to the sic
cessful troop' -at the Hamilton. Scout
craft Exhibition on March 29. The fol.
