ing his holidays ata his home here.
Mr. Priest of Wijtgham has just in-
stalled two large tanks for cooling
the water used in the jacket of an
oil burning engine in Williams' flour
mill, Zurich. Mr. Priest installed the
engine two years ago.
Mr, and Mrs. William R. Jenkins
of Turnberry, announce the• engage-
ment of their only daughter, Maggie
Karifa Kerr to Mr. Henry T. Wheel-
er, only son of Mr, and Mrs. Arthur
Wheeler of Morris, the marriage to
take place the latter part of Decem-
ber.
Mr, and Mrs. Alex. Kelly left last
week for their home in Swift Cur-
rent, Sask., after spending the last
seven months with their son, Mr, 5.
A. Kelly, of Turnberry. They will
visit at Winnipeg and Regina on the
way. Before corning to Wingham
last May they visited their two sons,
in Banff, and last July they visited
Mrs. Kelly's brother in Alpena, Mich„
whom they had not seen for twenty-
five years. Mr. and Mrs, Kelly are
both hale and hearty and enjoyed

C. LLOYD & SON ADDED NEW BUILDINGS
AND AN ATTRACTIVE OFFICE THIS YEAR
Canada's prosperity and optimistic
future have strong confirmation in the
activity, around C. Lloyd & Son's door
factory in Wingham, one of the lar-
gest in Canada. A year ago they ad-
ded a one -storey cement wing, which
practically increased their capacity by
50%, and This year additional build-
ings and modern labor-saving mach-
inery have made an additional in-
crease in production possible, At the
i 1']71has
rear of the new addition, the tea
just completed the erection of dry -
kiln, so arranged that as the lumber
is .loaded an cars passing to the kiln
it moves right to the factory ready
for the different' processes of mann-
facture. 'This' is a big labor saving
change, adding much to the efficiency
of the concern, In . addition' to this
immense storage shed provided
n g s are
for the proper housing' of the differ -
wit lumbers of which several 'thous-
and feet are constantly on Itanct to
meet any contingency. „This firm
makes some 300 different styles of
doors, of var•iotts desi grts and mater-
g
fats, and carry on hand 3000 finished
so that any order may be filled at
once,
However efficient may be factory,
machinery and system, workmen in
establishments like this, labor under
a great disadvantage from dust -fill-
ed air, unless provision is made to
eliminate it.. A 25 h,p. motor is used
specially to drive big suction fans
frons the principal,
machines to draw
the dust from tate 'premises, and as
a restilt the men breath comparative-
ly pure air. ,One can .walk through
the work -rooms and remark on the
entire absence of dust. The installa-
tion of this system cost considerable,
and its operation is no meanaccount,
but the net result is providing more
healthy working -conditions, and elini-
inating an ever-present fire hazard,
fully compensates for all,
An additional evidence of expan-
sion is found in new offices just coni-
111eted at the west end of the build-
ing, These are about eight times the
size of tate old offices, The walls
are . beautifully panelled ,in Chesnut
and ashith ' plaster fit stucco, cream
v pas
finish, and have •a splendid system
of lighting, Besides the large gen-
eral office, there are two private of-
fices, similarly finished, and an essen-
tial to the proper conduct of any big
business, where certain details cart" be
discussed in privacy..

No drama or picture ever produced
a greater thrill to young and old than
Uncle Tom's Cabin -that immortal
story of slavery by Harriet Beecher
Stowe. There was something thrill-
ing about the heartless cruelty of the
slave -owner, the humble devotion of
Uncle Tom, the lovable sympathy of
Eva, while Topsy, well she just made
fun for the whole lot. The story has
been .filmed and is billed for the Ly-
ceum Theatre on Thursday, Friday
and Saturday. Here the story of sell-
ing human beings, their flogging, es-
cape of Eliza and her child across
the river on ice floes, the pursuit by
blood hounds, and all its thrills, the
death of Eva, are all brought vividly
to mind. It is a great story for the
younger folk, while there are few of
the older ones who will not get a
real pleasure in again seeing the
story rehearsed, even if deprived the
thrill of leading a blood -hound in the
parade.
One of the :Mississippi's fatuous old
side -wheel steamboats, the "Kate Ad-
ams," was chartered for nine weeks
and rebuilt to conform to the period
of the 50's,
There are nearly 3,000 scenes
twice as many as in any former for-
mer Universal sttper production. '
The "Uncle Tom's Cabin" company
travelled 26,000. miles on location
trips for locale and atmosphere for
the many scenes. These included
visits to New York, Tennessee, Ar-
kansas, Illinois, Pennsylvania and
California.

Citizens generally have a generous
word of praise far the timely action
of the Utilities Commission in plac-
ing a Xmas Tree at' the Bank of Com-
merce corner. The tree is a respect-
able size and with its bright multi-
colored lights twinkling in the sharp
atmosphere, gives a much-needed
touch to the Christmas season. It
is perhaps, unfortunate that some
service institution or the town fath-
ers themselves did not provide a com-
munity Xmas tree where the child-
ren of the place might have another
enjoyable hour. However, the time-
ly action of those -responsible goes a
long way to keep alive the spirit of
Christmas,' and furnishes adidtional
evidence of the need of continued
public spirited actions, to keep the
place abreast of the times, and equal
to ottr ambitious neighbors.
