'Wonderin.g'. at,that which bad iconic to pass," -Christ had told hint, over and over, that all these things would come to pass, yet he was astounded when they happened! :But is our faith in Christ's promises any strong- er than Peter's? CHRIST - OUR LIFE. Azt objector may 'say, "It is well enough tb talk of -Christ's resurrec- tions but • He was God, and so o£ course He -could,. not be held in the grave. His -resurrection does not :n wive ours, but is:a very different matter." Let us; discover. the . swer to that objection, "Let not your heart be troubled." -The disciples Were greatly troubled ata Christ's prediction of :His coming death, John 13:33. "Believe in God, believe also in pie,"-llelief in God involves belief also in God's Son, and belief in Christ involves belief in His Father. Fear of death is conquered by such belief. "In my 'Father's house are many mansiozis."-'The _Father's "house" is heaven,, the next world. "Mansion" is literally "an abiding -place," "a place to remain in," the root' of the Greek word being the same as our "man- sion,"' "1f it were 'not so, I would have told you." -Christ had:been talk- ing about going to some place whith- er thedisciples could not go with Him, but they should follow Him later. He would not have talked thus if there were no - such place. - "For I go to prepare a place for you." - We know that Christ loves us and wishes for us alljoy, and that He is all-powerful, nothing having been made without him. "And if 1 go and prepare a place for you, I conte again, and will re- ceive you unto myself." -Christ doub- tless had in mind His second advent, His coming again in glory. The ''if" here implies no doubt, but rather means "As sure as I go, I will • re- turn." He would not prepare a place for us and not make certain that we should - occupy the place. "That where ,I ani, there ye may be also." - These words make clear our Lord's eager desire for the companionship of His disciples. He would not be - even in heaven without them. "And whither T go, ye know the way -This is half, a rebuke, imply mg that they ought to know more than tliey did !know; they had heard but had not heeded (John 10: 7, 9; 11: 25). Thus we say, 'You know,' `You see,' meaning, 'Your might' knew, you might see, if you would but take the trouble " "'thontas saith unto him."-I`hom- as, the inquiring, doubting disciple. "Lord, we -know not whitehr thou gu- est; grow know we the way?" -It would be natut'al for Thomas to think of jettraslem as the capitol of Christ's coming kingdom, but Christ had spoken of ;going away some- wlicre. What could He mean? Thomas' slow mind was all confused. "Jesus saith unto him," -Uttering. one of the most forceful and mean- ingful sentences in all the Bible. "I ant the way, and the truth, and the life.''-c`l do not merely .pointout the way and teach the truth and bestow life, but 1 am the way and the truth and the life, so that by attachment to me one necessarily is in the way and possesses the truth and the life. The way' 11cret, 1(1(11ed to'i, the way to the Father, 'i -lc. is the goal of all. Ilnmait : aspii•ittioii, 'Arad the truth,' primarily ,about God and the way tc 1-i1 n," :tit also as furnishing us w with all knowledge which we now require for life. `And tile,' life,' the death which eat is its sita<low over the elev- en -and Himself is itself to be svva11- owed ajl in life, Those Who are one with Jesus cannot chr they arcnos- sessed of the source of life," "1Vo one eolnleth'unto the :Father, but. by rte." -Christ's repetition shows that of the three ---the way, the truth and the life -He regards the first as of the most importance, at least in the . present: dicu.ssion, There are many roasts which'are claimed to -be ways to God, but only one road leads to God; - that road is faith in 'Christ and obedience to Christ's wilt; • VVROXETER Quito t number in this vicinity ty are busy maiii.ng maple syrup and report a very good season.
