UNION BOARDS
OF EDUCATION
Ever since Chesley teas constitiuted
a High, School District, 24 years ago,
there have been. two separate school 1.1
boards; the high and public school 16`1
hoards, each consisting! of six mem-
bers, the former appointed, a sort of
focal Senate, and the latter elected.
Each- has its ,separate, duties. The E
deed of, the school building is vested
in the :public school board and the ti
Vigil ,school is tenant, paying an an- Is
'tical rent of $800 as the share of fuel. 'ig
and the caretaker's salary besides
paying' all the expenses of upkeep of
the w-ar•cl school, the rental of which
is $180 a year. _
In view of the necessity formore El
accomodation, brought about by the d1
Adolescent School Act, the time is fit
ripe for a .union of the two boards.
Section 13, paragraph 1, of the Board
of Education Act points Out the way
forunion as follows: "A high school =
board of a municipality in which a
municipal board has not been organ-. N.
ized and the board of public school
trustees of the sante municipality may
unite 'as a union board of education
on filing with the clerk of the muni-
cipality in which the high school. is —
situate certified copies of resolutions P. --
providing
proviclin,g 'foir • such union passed at
seperate meetings of each of the
boards called for --the purpose of.con-
sidering such: unions.
\Ve.lxlpe to see the two boards pass
the necessary :legislation next year,
It is the right thing to 'do in' a Com-
bined' sch cal.
