Last Friday evening a few friends
from Goderich, Brussels, Wingham
and 13eigrave gathered by invitation
a.t the home of Mr. and Mrs. Garner
Nicholson, to commemorate a great
event to Garner's life( his birthday). -
For many years when his birthday
conies around, he always invites some
of his friends and neighbors in to cel-
ebrate. First cards were played till
ten o'clock, then ail repaired to the
dining room where a splendid full
coarse dinner was served by, -a num-
ber of capable waiters. A beautiful
three-story birthday cake was the
'centrepiece: After spending an hour
around the table, in a thoroughly
satisfactory manner they then repair-
ed to the living room where they en-
joyed a good program of speeches,
readings, music and singings after-
wards all joined hands and sang
"Should mildacquaintance be :forgot"
and "He is a jolly good fellow." •.Af-
tel wishing their host and hostess.

Mrs. Gregg Shiell and baby son
returned home from Wingham Hos-
pital or .Standay last.
Mr. Robert Pardon is suffering
with a sore head these days having
been kicked above the eye by one
of his horses. Some, stitches were
necessary to close the cut.
Many friends of Mr. Richard "Ir-
win of Wingham, will be sorry . to
learn that he fell in the barn of his
son, Hearson, last week and broke
his hip -bone: He was coning down
from the now and as he swung a-
round the brace to get on the lad-
der the brace 'carne out and he fell
to the barn floor. 'He was • taken
to Wingham Hospital where fire will
be pleased to see his friends' troth
time to time.
Mr. Clayton Robinson of Detroit
returnedahome on Thursday last. He
was accompanied by his aunt, Mrs.
Peter Robinson . and Florence, who
visited with her sisters, the Misses
McGill, of Belgrave and returned to
Detroit on Saturday,
Miss Edna Morrison is visitin re-
latives, in Toronto at present.
Mrs. John Johnston and Miss Bea-
trice are in Toronto this week where
Miss Johnston is intending to have
an operation on her nose
Mr. J. 13. Morrison returned home
from the West two weeks ago.
Whitechurch :Presbyterian Sunday
School will hold their annual Christ-
mas entertainment on Tuesday ev-
ening, December 18th.

Mrs. David Hackett and her two
daughters are moving to L ucknow.
We will be sorry to see them leave
