The W. M. S. of Knox United
church will hold their Autumn Thank -
offering meeting on Wednesday, Nov.
14th, at 2 o'clock, Mrs, (Rev.) Weir
of Blyth, will address the meeting.
On Thursday, Nov, lst, about twen-
ty ladies of the W. M, S. and Aid
gathered in the schoolroom of Knox
United church and held their regular
meeting. Mrs, John Coultes had char-
ge of ..the devotional exercises in con-
nection with 'W. M. S. Mrs. Albert
Vincent gave a splendid report from
the Conference at Fordwieh. In the
absence of Mrs. Rintoul, Mrs. Jos.
Miller, vice-president, took charge of
the Aid meeting and the usual busi-
ness was dealt with. The meeting
closed with the Lord's prayer.
Rev. Mr, Taylor of Belmore, occu-
pied the pulpit of Knox United church
on Sunday, Nov. 4th,
Next Sunday, Nov, llth, being Ar-
mistice Day the members of the wif-
ferent churches' are asked to be in
their places on time that all may ob-
serve the two minute silence; Pro-
grammes are prepared which will be
used at this service,
Miss Hornfelt of Wingham, spent
the week -end the guest of Rev. and
Mrs. Scobie and family.
C. R. Coultes spent the week -end
in Toronto,
Dan Ferguson of Toronto, was a
visitor at the home of his parents,
Mr. and Mrs, A. Ferguson this week.
Rev. and Mrs. Scobie spent Monday
in London,
Little Erma Cook, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs, Harry Cook of Wawanosh,
is under the doctor's care at present,
The little .girl was taken to Toronto
on Thursday for treatment.
A very interesting time was held
in the basement of the United church
on , Wednesday evening, when the
Young People's Society held a Hallo-
we'en social, The basement was beau-
tifully decorated for the occasion and
added greatly to the spirit of the ev-
ening. A large number present were
in costume to suit the evening and
kept those present guessing their id-
entity. The prizes were awarded to
Ilene McCallum and Mildred Scobie
for costume, A .and
of readings,
solos, duets and instrumental numbers
was much enjoyed by all. Several
games were enjoyed and at the end of
the program lunch was served and a
pleasant evening brought to a close.
The regular meeting of the Ladies'
Guild of the Anglican church was
held at the home of Mrs. W. Nethery
senior, of Belgrave, on Thursday af-
ternoon.
Mr, and Mrs. J. A. Brandon visited
with friends in Zurich last week for
a couple of days.
Mrs. W. W. Gray has returned to
her home in London, ,after visiting
with friends here.
Miss Matthews, former matron of
Wingham Hospital, is spending a
week with her cousin, Mrs. D. Scott.
Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Brandon were
recent visitors in Hamilton.
Basil Coultes of Buffalo, is spend-
ing some time with his brother, J. T.
Coultes.

Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Cook and family
of Belgrave visited with Mr. and Mrs.
Fred J. Cook on Sunday.
Communion service was held in the
Westfield United church on Sunday
with a large attendance. Next Sab-
bath being Thanksgiving the service
will be held in keeping with that
theme.
Master Ross Taylor, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Melvin Taylor had the misfort-
une to break both bones in his leg
above the ankle on Tuesday last. He
also suffered five fractures.
Miss Bertha Ellis is visiting in To-
ronto at present.
Mr. and lvlrs, Albert Campbell and
family visited with. Mr. and Mrs. Fitz-
gerald of Dungannon on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cook and
daughter, Erma, went to Toronto on
Thursday, where Erma underwent an
operation. She is doing as well as
can be expected,
Mr, Gordon Snell is wearing a broad
smile these days: Why? A baby girl
of course. Congratulations.

of Mr, and Mrs. Robt. Carrick,

The Hallowe-ea Social held in the
United Church on'Friday evening was
quite a success.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Spalding spent
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Brow-
ning of Kincardine. Mr. Cottle re-
turned with them and is in London
having further treatments on' his eyes.
Miss Myrtle Johnston of Currey's
Corners and Miss Doris Watson of
Nile, spent the week -end at the home
of Mr, and Mrs. W. R. Farrier.
Miss Cook of Westfield spent a few

John Mundell is putting up a poul-
try house this week,
Mrs. Robert Hamilton has purch-
ased a barn in Grey and is having it
taken down and moved to replace the
one destroyed by fire in September.
Miss Louie Patton has returned
home after spending a few week with
relatives at Toronto.

and implements on Thursday -last,

in games after which refreshments
were served, sandwiches, apple and
