which she made feeling reference
the loss of several devoted worke
in the Prebyterial during the yea
she extended congratulations. to th
Teeswater Auxiliary upon the.attai
ment of fifty years of successful; mi
sionary effort. Then using as the bas
of, her remarks the words from Ex
odus i4: 115—"`And the Lord said tint
Moses, wherefore criest thou unt`
rue? Speak unto the children of Israe
that they' go forward," she pointe
out that progress should be the watch
word for the future, and, with this en
in view, .every member of the Societ
should consecrate afresh her life, he
time, her talents; and her money, tha
she may have greater zeal, greate
devotion to God's service, loftier as
pirations, higher' aims,' and a constan
increase of the standard of our en
deavours toward a fuller service in
the work of the Master's vineyard.
Hymn 399 was then used in the
service of praise after which a most
pleasing feature, of the afternoon ses-
sion took place, Mrs. W. hf. Arkell,
of Teeswater, giving a resume of 5o
year's work of the W. M. S. of Tees -
water, which celebrates its golden jub-
ilee in missionary work this year.
Two charter members, Mrs. Gillies
and Mrs. MacDonald, each accom
anied by a little granddaughter, were
ailed: to the .platform and presented
ith a' pin in honor of the occasion.
fitting tribute was paid to aeother
marten member, the late Mrs. Annie
rant, who was called home on. Mar -
21st of the present year.
Mrs. D. Strachan,' of Toronto, a re-
nt commissioner to the Orient from
the General Assembly, gave an 'in-
spiring address in which she present-
ed the nmagnitude of the work and
made a stirring appeal for candidates
for missionary work. Miss Dorothy
Douglas, of Lucknow, who is to sail
for Formosa the first week of Sep-
tember, was called to the platform by
Mrs. Strachan, who, in introducing
her to the Prebyterial, paid' her a very
warm tribute for the step she was
taking and asked for the prayers of rie
all on her behalf.

The singing of hymn 374, `and clos-
ing prayer by Mrs. W. A, Williams,
brought to a close one of the most
successful ineeting-s ever held by the
Maitland Prebyte-rial Women's Mis-
sionary Society, Afterwards Mrs. Car-
, the president, in replying, pres-
ed Mr, McDonald with a souvenir
oklet, "After Fifty Years," contain -
a historical sketch of the Women's
Missionary Society of Knox Preby-
terial, Teeswater.
In the evening an open meeting was
held, which was presided over by
Rev. A. Forbes, pastor of Knox
church,:Seaforth, the special feature
of which was the very interesting
address on the missionary work in;
the foreign east -Formosa, Korea,
Manchuria, Japan, etc., where noble
amen and women such as Dr. and Mrs.
Goforth, Miss Caroline McDonald and
others, accomplished` so much by their
patient and persevering efforts for so
many years. Opportunities for service
come through wide open doors in
these countries; and there are many
evidences of the uplift of the gospel
on every hand..The singing of hymn
556 and the' Doxology brought this
meeting to a close.
