A1 man is grateful to his wife for
permitting hini to indulge in his pe.r-
sonel2 tastes and hobbies. Very few
wives do this, Most werpen think it
a waste of time and money fr a man
to buy, a thirT, or ,4„,o,a, thing, just be-

gailSe wants to •Io i. Ihe result
is that most husbands have to give -up
their fads as soon as they are mar -
tied. Therefore, the man. who is per-
mitted, to pursue his hobbies in peace
in the home he supports, and in which
he generally has very few rights is

A. husband is grateful to his wife
when she permits him'to keep an old
friend or two.'' The first that most
brides do is Cold-s'houlder all, their
husbands former ,friends. Nearly ev-
ery man in his bachelor days has some
churn who is closer than a bitither;
some friend to whom he is bound by
ties of land affection and association,
and the poor optimistic creature has
told them how the girl he is going to
marry will like them and what happy
hhoomure.sthey will have together in his
But most young wives consider it
their duty to freeze out all their hus-
band's old associates. This „they do
with a neatness and dispatch that
leaves the husband friendless except
for the people his wife foists upon
him. It hurts a man in his heart and.
M his pride to realise that his wife
has alienated his friends from him;
so nothing makes a husband more
grateful to his wife than for her to be
really cordial to his old comrades and,
to permit him to continue to enjoy his
old friendships.
He is grateful beyond words to his
wife when she has enough sense to
understand that when he sits silent of
an evening it isn't because he is sul-
len, but because he is too worn out to
talk, and that as long as he works
hard to support her she needn't wor-
ry about having lost his affections. A
husband is grateful to his wife for
showing him some appreciation and
for saying "thank you" for all he dues
for her. Most wives take it for
granted that their husbands should
slave to support them and their
children.
Abpve all, men are grateful to their
wives for trying to get along with
their people. A man loves his mother
and father and sisters and brothers.
Taking a wive doesn't kill all family
ties. And so when his wife tries to
win the affections of his family, when
she uses tack in dealing with them,
and tries to be a daughter instead of
and • in-law to his mother, it fills his
soul with gratitude aird thankfulness.
