DISTRIBUTING PREMIUMS
The Wingham Horticultural Soei-
ety has received and distributed al-
most a ton of shrubs, and 1309 Tub-
erous Begonias arriongsttheir mem-
bers, The Society is also distribut-
ing seeds free to all the children of
the Wingham Public.School. It is
their intention to award prizes to the
pupils growing the best flowers from
these seeds. Over 3,000 gladioli
bulbs are expected to -day and will be
given out , to the members, Mrs,
Nash, Secretary of the Society, will
be pleased to give them Ont.
Mrs. Spotton, tile president, tells
us there are now 275 melnbers. Truly
the Horticultural §nciety, should be
encouraged in their efforts to beauti-
fy the town. People are never tcio
anxious to buy a membership ticket
-until they find the 'supply of shrubs,
seeds and bulb's here, and then the de-
mand far exceeds the supply. Tele-
phones are busy for a day or so with,
people wondering if it is now'tbo lat,a
to get in on the preiniurn. '
Several vacant street cornets are to
be planted with shrubs and flowers
this, spring, 1

A Bad Actor at.Holyrood
Last Monday residents of Holyroocl
got a shocking . surprise when they
observed the condition of an entomb-
bile which stood in the shed, near Mr.
Purvis' store. All fo,ur tires on the
tar and the spare, had long gashes cut
in them, evidently with a sharp knife.
'Die upholstery was also cut and ripp-
holes cut in the top, and some of
the wiring torn loose. It is under-
stood that the tar belongs to a Wing-
•
ham dealer who had sold it to a party
,
in that section and that the purchaser
had not been able to keep up the
payments, and the dealer had found, it
necessary to take the car back. It
