'Women's Institute Meet
About sixty ladies gathered at the
home
of Mrs, Harold Sparling on
Friday last for the monthly meeting
of the Women's Institute. The
President, Mrs. Grain, was in the
chair, After the 'opening exercises,
Mr. Malcolm Ross showed the ..tea
set .which he is selling and the lad-
ies purchased a set, to be given to
Mrs. Bert Boyd, as
y , a remembrance
from the Institute members, Several
ladies .
t thanked the flowerand frail
committee for remembrances during
ting stitches for a sock on needles,
while special prizes will be given for
the best salads, either fruit or veget-
able. All the ladies are requested to
attend these meetings. The meeting
was closed by singing the Institute
anthem, Lunch was served and a
social half-hour was' spent.
The Mission Band of the United
Church are holding a quilting in the
church basement this Wednesday and
are serving lunch, Everyone is in-
vited.
Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Naylor, of
Chatham, spent last week at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. B. S. Naylor.
Mrs. A. Emerson James and Lila,
and Mr. Bert Ctnllamore spent Sun-
day with Kinloss friends.
Mr. Ed. Gaunt is suffering these•
days with a painful foot, a jack fell
on it, crushing •some of the toes.
Rev. W. J. Watt, of Long Branch;
is taking the service in the United
Church on. Sunday, August 21.
Mr. Dan McInnis has been seri-
ously ill during the past week with
an attack of pneumonia.
Mr.' and Mrs. Fred Clarke, of Am-
herstburg, and Miss Anna May ,Car-
rick, who has , been visiting with
them, spent the week -end at the tat-
ter's home here.
On account of the illness of Rev.
J. Pollock, the services were with-
drawn on Sunday, in Calvin, Lang -
side and Chalmers Churches.
Mr.'and Mrs. Elgin Wellwood and
Richard and Miss Norah Falconer,
of Caledon, spent the week -end at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Fal-
coner and other relatives here.
Mrs. Joe Holmes has been visit-
ing for a few days with relatives at
Clinton.
Miss Olive Purdon spent a few
day last week with her grandparents,

Congratulations' are due Mr. Her-
bert Taylor, who was one of • the
winners in the Farm Accounting
competition. This competition con-
sisted in keeping farm accounts ror
the first six months of the year in
a book supplied by .the Department
of Agriculture. The prize is a two -
weeks' free course at the O. A. C.
next winter. Herbert is a member
of the Dungannon Junior Farmers'
Club, and Miss Margaret Durnin, of
Dungannon Junior Institute was also
successful in winning, the two weeks'
course.
Rev. W. J. Watt, of Long Branch
will occupy the pulpit in the Unit-
ed Church next Sunday morning.
Mr. John Salkeld, of Gauld, Sask.,
and his neice, Miss Jean Rutherford,
of Spy Hill, 'Sask., were visitors for
a few days with the former's cousin,
Mrs. R. K, Miller and other relativ-
es. Jean, who is a daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Donald Rutherford, former
residents of the vicinity, went West
with her parents nearly twenty years
ago, and was welcomed back by
many old friends of the fancily.
Mr, and Mrs. Campbell, of Bruce -
field, were. recent visitors with NVlr.
and Mrs. Robinson Woods. Miss
Johnston returned to Brucefield with
them for a visit.

afternoon at Mrs. Wm. Edwards'. 24
