LOCAL MEN HAD
WONDERFUL TRIP
Toured England, Scotland, and
Visited Paris
Four local men, Jack Hanna, A.
M. Crawford, Gordon Buchanan and
Harcourt Mundy, arrived back in
town after an overseas trip of six
weeks. They crossed both ways on
the Empress of Britain and thor-
oughly enjoyed the sea voyag and
praised the boat very highl3r
It was July 7th when t ey landed
at Southampton and they were par-
ticularly fortunate that the Royal
Agricultural Show was in progress
there at that time. This is the out-
standing agricultural exhibit of the
British Isles. From Southampton
they proceeded to London by bus,
and this, their first trip in England,
was greatly enjoyed. The south of
England is exceedingly beautiful at
this time of year.
Three days were spent in Lon-
don during which time they visited
all the historical points . of interest
such as Westminster Abbey, St.
Paul's Cathedral., The British Mae -
Kensington Gardens, Royal Museum,
Buckingham and St. James Palaces,
Tower of London, and the Mounting
of die King's Guard.
They spent' a delightful week -end
at Margate on the sea, the, guests
of Mrs. Parkinson, friends of Mr.
and Mrs. IL C. MacLean. Mrs. Par-
kinson took them for a motor trip
to Canterbury where the famous
Canterbury Cathedral is located, also
to Folkestone and Dover.
The highlight of their trip was a
13 -day trip in a 7 -passenger Daimler
car, through England and Scotland.
Leaving London they went up the
west side of England, visiting Ox-
ferd, Chester, Carlisle, Blackpool,
Windermere and thence to Edin-
burgh. At Stirling, Bridge of Allen,
they- called on Mr. Spittall's sister,
who was delighted to hear of him
through men from his Canadian
home town.
Pitlichry, via Loch Tay and Loch
Lomond was the next call and then
to Glasgow. A trip by boat down
the • Clyde to Loch Gilspeacl and
back by bus to Glasgow. At Loch
Gilspeacl they saw relatives of Mr.
Crawford's. They then proceeded to
Ayr and Kilmarnock, where they
bowled on a green 200 years old.
Jack and Alex. each bought a pair
of bowls there 100 years old. Steen-
raer came next and from there they
took tate boat to Belfast, Ireland,
and spent a day there. On their re-
turn to Stranraer, they returned to
London, going back by York and
An aeroplane trip to Paris was
very interesting. The plane travelled
at a height of 8000 feet and covered
the 225 mile trip in 2 hours. 40 pas-
sengers were aboard. Two days
were spent sight-seeing in Paris, and
then back to London.
Kilmarnock was not the only pIaCe
that they played on the greens, as
they found time to enjoy a game at
several other points. '
'This is a very meagre outline of
the trip but will serve to show how
tompletey one can visit England and
Scotland in a little over a month,
All four enjoyed. their delightful
and interesting trip, and hope that
some time in the future they will be
able to go again.

dine, will conduct both morning and
