requesting all farmers to co -.operate
With the Council in an effort to

a neighboring sideroad.
The Council will meet at the Twp
Hall on Monday, May 23rd as a
Court of Revision on the assessment
roll.

Little Miss Elva Ross, of Huron
Twp., is visiting for a few weeks
with her grandparents, Mr. and
Mrs. David Farrier.
Miss Annie Moore, of Toronto,
spent the week -end at the home of
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur
Moore.
Mr. Geo, Haig, of Seaforth, spent
two days last week with his moth-
er, Mrs. Haig, at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Robert J. Ross.
Mr. John Gaunt returned from
Wingha Hospital on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Farrier and
Garnet and Olive spent Sunday with
their daughter, Miss Winnifred Far-
rier of Ripley. Miss Farrier had
held an Art Exhibit, consisting of
Art drawn • by the First Form and
one hundred beautiful pictures from
Toronto, in. the High School. there
on Thursday and Friday, charging
a small admission fee, made over
$30 with which to purchase pictures
for their school. We congratulate
Miss Farrier on her enterprise.
The Young People of Chalmer's
Church are holding a social evening
in their church on Thursday, April
28th, and have invited the Langside
and Calvin young people to join
with them.
'Mrs: A. Emerson and Mr, Bert
Cttllamore spent Sunday at . the
home of IVIr. and Mrs. Victor Em-
erson.
Mr. Tom Morrison, of Toronto,
spent the week -end with his parents
here, and his sister, Miss Edna, re-
turned with him on Sunday to To-
ronto.
Mrs. Malcolm Green, of North'
Bay, is spending this week with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs, Frank Hen-
ry.
Mr. Ewan Simpson of Innisfail,
Alta., arrived hone on Saturday to
attend the funeral of his brother,
Mr. Robert Simpson. The funeral
was held over from Saturday, wait-
ing for Mr. E. Simpson's arrival.
Mr. Simpson has not been home for
over 32 years and many old friends
will • be pleased to welcome him
back home again.
Mr. Walter *Ferguson of Culross,
and Mr. Jas. Wilson motored to
Rockwood on ,Saturday to attend
the funeral of their uncle,. Mr. Rich.
Hewitt. Many Langside friends, will
remember Mr. Hewitt.
Sorry to report that Miss Mary
Laidlaw, also Mrs. John Turner are
under the doctor's care at present.
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Reed anct fam-
ily spent Sunday at the home of
Mr. and MVIrs. Jacob Reed of Dttn-
gannon.
1vIrs. Thos. Gaunt's fattier, Mr.
McKenzie, is very low at present in
Wingharn Hospital.
Miss Lila Humphrey of St. Hel
ens, is visiting with her aunt, Mrs.
A. Fox.
Mr. and Mrs, Robert Purdon and
:children spent Sunday with her par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Ander-
son of St. Helens.
'Miss Lettie Fox motored with
friends to 'Goderich on Sunday and.
visited at the home of Mr, and Mrs.
Dudley Holmes.
• On Wednesday, April 20, Mr. and
Mrs, David Kennedy, of W. °Wawa-
nosh, are celebrating their golden
wedding anniversary at their home.
They were married by Rev. Taylor
of Lucknow, April 20th, 1882. They
have a family of six children, Ag-
nes, Mrs. Harry. Tichbourne, ,of
Goderich; Jean, Mrs. Lorne Durnin
of St. Helens; George, Pete' and
Annie, at home, and Mr. Duncan
Kennedy, of Whitechurch, all of
whom: were present for the golden
wedding. This community extends
to them hearty congratulations and
the best wishes for many more
years of wedded life.

read and approved.

Miss Mabel Johnson spent the
week -end at her home in White-

Mr. Wm. Arbuckle has rented V.
Haines' farm.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Day, of Gorrie,
spent Sunday at the home of Mr.
Harry Deacon.
Mr. Elmer Arbuckle had the mis-
fortune "to sprain his ankle and we
hope he will soon be about again.

Duff, has returned to her home.
Mrs. Grace Snell, who has been
spending the winter with her dau-
ghter, Mrs. • C. H. Coultes, at Lis-
towel, has returned to her home

family 'of Parkhill were week -end
visitors with relatives here.
The Young People's Society of
the United' Church held their week-
ly meeting last Friday evening in
the basement of the church. The
subject "What Music has done for
Me," was.taken by Beatrice 'Thorn-
ton. Beth Barnard read the Scrip-
ture lesson and Harry Mann took
the topic, The meeting was closed
by the benediction. The remainder
of the evening was taken up by
playing various games.

ored to Toronto on Sunday, return-
ing Monday.
Mr. and Mrs, Sam Sherwood, and
little , daughter, Shirley, near Crewe,
Mr. and 'Mrs. Andrew Gaunt, near
St. Helens, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie
Ritchie and little son, near!. Zion,
and Mr. Earl Sherwood, were home
on Sunday to see theic father, Mr.
Sam Sherwood, who has not been
well, and is under the doctor's care.
We hope he will soon' be around
again.
We extend our sincere sympathy
to Miss Verna Pollock,, teacher at
Scott's school, 10th con., in the
sudden passing away of her sister,
on Thursday, following an operation
in Kincardine Hospital. She was 22
years old that day. The funeral was
held on Monday afternoon,
Mr. and Mrs. John Blake . and
daughter, Bernice, of Winghain,
spent the week -end with her sister,
Mrs. Will Alton, and other rela-
tives.

Arrested for Fraud
Goderich "Francis H. Bytes, fifty-
two -year-old English stock sales-
man alleged to be implicated in a
gigantic creamery factory swindle in.
which investors of Western Ontario
are said to have been defrauded out
of over $200,000, appeared before
Magistrate Reid and was remanded
until April 21.. It was Bytes who
asked for the remand.
Accused was charged that he did
at the village of. Brussels in the
County of ' Huron on or about the
6th clay of _ November, 1929, obtain
the sum of $1,250, the property of
John. A. Crerar, of Brussels by false
pretences, contrary to section 405 of
the Criminal Code,
