The regular meeting of the Wo- men's Institute was held on Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. D. J. Falconer, with a • good attendance. The roll -call, "Which season I like best and why" was responded to by almost all the ladies. Miss Ruby G. Duff, R,N., dietician at the Women's College Hospital, Toronto, gave a most interesting and instructive ad- dress on Food, the principles of food and the part each plays in the build- ing of the body; food required for use in different diseases; the arrang- ing of trays for the sick and lastly gave a short account of the origin and work of .the hospital and the many fields of work for a trained nurse today compared with fifteen years ago, Miss Duff's address was enjoyed by all present. Miss Dorci"thy Aitken fav- ored the company with a musical and. vocal duet, The meeting closed by singing the National Anthem and the hostess served refreshments assisted by Mrs, Mowbray. Enter son, was in the chair and after th opening exercises the business meet ing was held. The request for th ladies to license the hall was refuse unanimously, owing to the eornplica tions entailed and it was decided t carry on as previously. The sewin teacher will be in the Hall on Aug ,ust 24, 25 and 26, when as many a would like to take the course will b welcome to attend for an initial fe of 25c. On the evening of the 26t the ladies are holding a corn roas at the Hall and a social evening wil be spent. The next meeting will b held in the evening at the home o Mrs. J. Richardson, which will tak the form of a grandmother an grandfather meeting and prizes wil be given for the oldest of these at tending and also for the best old time costume. Ivirs. Lott rendered delightful solo, after which Dr. Red mond of Wingham was called upon to give a talk on Maternal Care. Thi was a very interesting and instructiv talk and was much appreciated and when a vote of thanks to him was moved it was responded to by a very hearty clap. Mrs. Jas. Morrison then gave a reading on " A Mother's Firs Duty to Herself" stressing the high view -point and the right perspective on life problems. After singing the national anthem the meeting closed and the hostess then served lunch and a pleasant half-hour was spent. The ladies are running a contest at present and are stressing getting new members, punctuality in attendance and answering the roll -call and a keen interest is beingshown, __• ,r„�, Miss Sarah Shariie, who was visit- ing with Miss. Vi- pond of London on Wednesday: EAST WAW ANOSH COUNCIL Council met on August llth, with all the members present. Minutes' of previous meeting were read and ap- proved. The Insurance policy carried by the township of late years against property liability and property dam- age having expired, Council decided not to renew same this season. A by-law was read and passed plac- ing the following rates of taxation for the present year. County rate 7 111.0 mills, township rate 3 810 mills and general school rate :4 3110 mills on the dollar. Ratepayers will be gratified to know of a reduction of 1 2110 mills ori the township rate as well as a re- duction of 112 mill on the county rate. Coupled with these lesser rates of taxation, smaller requisitions as a rule are required for school purposes and the paying off last year of 'the final bridge debentures make it ap- parent that considerable relief is in store for the already over -burdened taxpayer, Allan Pattison was re -ap- pointed Collector athis former sal- ary of $70.00.
