Mrs, Wm, Love had the misfortune
to break her arm a few weeks ago,
when carrying in wood she lost her
balance and fell.
Mr. and Mrs, Robert Ross of Bel -
more, have been moving this week
to their farm on the 2nd of Kinloss.
This community welcomes them to
their new hone.
Mrs. John Hutchison has been very
ill during the past week. After hav-
ing teeth pulled, the gums bled pro-
fusely and the doctor had to be call-
ed in..
Mr. John McMillan shipped a car
of cattle last Saturday from White=
church. '
Miss Annie Moore is in Dungan-
non at present helping Mrs. Craw-
ford, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Moore
and family spent Sunday with his
aunt, Mrs. David Girvin of Dungan-
non.
Mr. James Moir, who has been ill
for some time past, is improving now.
Ivlrs. Blatchford and son, ;Norman,
and Mr. and Mrs. Roy McGee, were
visiting with friends in this commun-
ity on Sunday.
NIr. and Mrs. Cecil Falconer and
family spent Sunday with Mr. and
Mrs. Lester Falconer of Culross.
Miss Velma Scott visited over the
week -end at the home of their daugh-
ter, Mrs. J. D. Ross.
Mrs. Reid spent last week with her
daughter, Mrs.' Balfour of Lucknow.
Mrs. Sidney Ferguson and Miss
French of London, spent the week-
end with the forrner's aunt, Mrs. A,
Clow.
Gordon Thompson, who has lived
for a week "owing to a break in the
machinery.
Mr. David Scott has returned from
London Hospital where . he has been
receiving treatment for rheumatism,
and he is very much improved.
Mrs. Victor. Emerson went to the
W. M. S. Presbyterial at Hensall last
Tuesday with a load from St. Helens.

The regular meeting of the Wo-
men's Institute will be held on
Thursday afternoon, May 14th, at the
home, of Mrs. (Rev.) Mann. The an-
nual reports for the year will be giv-
en and the election of officers. All
the members are requested to be pre-
sent to make arrangements for the
district annual meeting which is to
be held here.
The funeral- of the late James Mac-
Ewen was held to the Wroxeter cem-
etery on Saturday afternoon, the ser-
vices at the home and grave being
conducted by Rev. Mr. Bolingbroke,
pastor of Wroxeter United church.
The pallbearers were Allan MacEw-

en,. Gordon Yeo, Don. McNaughton,.
Kinley McNaughton.
Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Field of Wing-
ham were Sunday visitors at the

days at the home of his son Edgar

Quite a number of farmers will
finish seeding this week if the wea-
ther keeps favorable.
ST. HELENS
A friendly game of soft ball with
the Belfast school was a pleasant en-
ding to Arbor Day at the school here
on Friday. The result was a ;victory
for the hoine team, The return game
will be played at Belfast on Friday.

Mr. George Clark and daughter,
Jean, motored from Hamilton to
spend the week -end with her mother,

from London over Sunday.

in the School Fair will be held here

The April meeting of the W. M. S.
was held Thursday afternoon at Miss
Elizabeth Hackneys. Meeting open-
ed by singing and prayer. Minutes
by secretary -treasurer, Mrs. Wm.
Mundell. Roll call, a verse on pray-
er, topic, "Japan", by Minnie Jeffray;
reading by Mrs. Wm. Mundell, pray-
er in conclusion .by Mrs. Metcalf.
The ladies had a quilting after the
meeting.
The regular sunnier meeting of the
Institute will be held in the Com-
munity Hall on Wednesday evening,
May 13th. Mrs. McDonaugh of Cope

Mrs. Mary J. Herd
In the passing of Mrs. Mary Jane
par Herd, one 'of the highly esteem-
ed residents of Greenock Township
is deeply 'mourned.' Her death oc"
curred after a brief 'illness at "the'
home of her daughter, Mrs. James
Nickel of Toronto ort>.April 26th.
Mrs, Herd who was ,,the daughter
of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Orr
was born in Cobottrg in 1865. and was
married to Hector Herd who prede-
ceased her sixteen, years ago. After
leaving Cobourg, she lived in Eger -
mount township and then in Rivers -
dale where she resided for forty-five
years. She is survived ,by five dari-
ghters, Mrs. John "Iiafliday, * Green-
ock township, Mrs. Eldon Bell, Mrs.
Walter Halliday, Mrs., Donald Full-
erton, Saskatchewan, and two sons:
George Herd, Belmore, and Ormond
Herd, Teeswater; also" two sisters,
Mrs. J. Deane and Miss Margaret
Orr, Sask., and one brother, Frank
Orr, Calgary, andthirty-one grand-
children.
A large number of friends gather-
ed for the funeral which took place
from the home of a daughter; Mrs.
John. Halliday, on Wednesday, Apiil
29th. The service was 'conducted by
Rev. Wm. McCroth 'of Riversdale, as-
sisted by Rev:\ R. 'X Turnbull, of
Belmore and Rev. 'C.; N. Mackenzie
of Ripley. Two very''intpr•e'ssive
tures of the ceremony were " the solo
by Mrs. Linklater of Kineat'dine and
seven grandchildren who carried, the
fluowers. The pall -bearers were, Mr.
D. S. Campbell, Mr. Wm. Armstrong,
Mr. Allen Orr, Mr. Richard Cassidy,
Mr. Albert Heidmiller and Mr. Nick
O'Hagan. The interement took place
in the Baptist Cemetery, on the Dur-
ham Road.

ing a week at "London and Windsor,
attending - the annual provincial con
vention of the W.M.S. of the Pres-
byterian Church.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Treleaven and

and Mrs. Joseph Smith of Lucknow,
spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. W.
Irwin.
Mr. and Mrs. John Blake and dau-
ghter, Bernice, of Wingham, spent
last Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Will
Alton.
The remains of Mr. Percy Sander-
son were brought home to Dungan-
non on Monday afternoon, May 4th
for burial, in Dungannon cemetery.
Mr. Sanderson conducted the general
store at Lanes for a few years before
be and bis family moved to Toronto.
We extend' our sympathy to the be-
reaved.

house in Dashwood and will move
his family there shortly.
Mrs: Henry Jackson returned home.
after spending the winter months
