tion has been included in the WeedControl Act, regarding the regist
ration and cleaning of threshing machines,
It is now compulsory for every thresher, operating a mach-
ine for hire, to obtain a Registration Certificate before starting op-
erations.—Clause 19, The Weed Control Act.
Every machine and all equiprnent used in connection therewith
must be thoroughly cleaned before moving Clause 18, The Weed
Control Act. The co-operation of every thresher is solicited in our
campaign to control Weeds.
This legislation will be strictly enforced.
Application forms may be obtained from the local Weed In-
spector, the Agricultural Representative or from J. D. Smith, Direct-
or, Crops, Seeds and Weeds Branch, Parliament Buildings, Toronto.

Church met in the church hefe on
Thursday last and quilted three quilts
for their bale.

The congregation of Langside, Cal-
vin and Chalmers Churches met in the
Presbyterian Church here on Friday
evening to welcome Rev. J. Pollock
and his bride. After an interesting
program, Mr. Fred Davidson asked
the bride and .groom to come to the
platform and Mr. Davidson read an
address, after which, Mr. 13. S. Naylor
and Mr, Henry McGee presented
thein with a woollen comforter, a
Coleman lamp, and a floor rug. Rev.
Mr. Pollock in a few fitting words,
thanked them for their remembrances.
Lunch was served and a social half-
hour was much enjoyed by all.
Misses Margaret and Minnie Mc-
Illwain of Fordwich visited on Mon-
day with their mint, Mrs. Fred David-
son.
Miss Margaret Clarke and Mr.
Archie Watt, who have been visiting
with Miss Muriel Watt during the
past week ,returned to their homes
at Long Branch on Monday.

motored to Clinton on Saturday to
attend the funeral of their uncle, Mr.

place from the home of his niece, Mrs.

ford spent the week -end here with

The service in the United Cliuch
here was taken by members of the
Young People's Society on Sunday in
the absence of the pastor. There will
be no service here next Sunday.
The baseball boys went to Auburn
last Wednesday to play a friendly
game ,and were defeated by a score
of 6-2. The baseball boys are plann-
ing for a Field Day here an September
11th..
The regular monthly meeting of the
W. M. S. of the United Church was
held in the church on Wednesday
last with the President, Mrs. Victor
Emerson in charge of the meeting.
After the opening exercises, Mrs. Gib-
son Gillespie read the Scripture lesson
and Mrs. Morrison led in prayer. Mrs,.
Ramage of Gorrie the delegate to the
Conference held in St. Marys in June,
was present and gave a very thought-
ful and instructive report of the dif-
ferent lines of Missionary wotk as
portrayed by the returned missionaries
who spoke at those meetings. She
stressed the• great need of prayer, and
contributions, membership and work-
ers and clothing, anything that is us-
able ,as long as it is clean, as so
many are destitute of anything to
sew or make over. The society gave
her a hearty vote of thanks for her
spa ndid message. Mrs. Mac Ross led
in prayer, Members of. the St, Helens
Society were present also, Lunch was
served and a social half-hour was
much enjoyed by all.

Institute Held Regular Meeting
The August meeting of the Belgrave
Branch of the Women's Institute was
held at the home of Mrs. Norman
Walsh on Tuesday afternoon last
week, with a good attendance present.
Mrs. N. Keating the president, con-
ducted the meeting which was opened
with the si ging' of the Od•e and
Lord's"rl'm'ye}-:' The minutes of the
previous meeting were. adopted. • Sev-
eral items of business were discussed
and it was decided. we would make a
quilt. Plans are under way for more
work at the• cemetery. . .
The . program consisted of piano
duets liy Velma Wheeler and Charlie
Scott ,a vocal solo by Ruth'Mitchell.
Martha Armstrong Iead the discus-
sion on Current Events. Mrs. W. C.
Scott gave t'wo' fine readings which
were much enjoyed. The address was
given by Miss' Lilla Taylor, who chose
the topic "What• is the purpose of
Life?" and gave a splendid talk which
was listened to with a great deal of

Orange Church Parade
The annual church parade service
held by the Orangemen of Belgrave
Lodge held inwas e d Knox ox United
Church on Sunday, August 25. Rev.
Townsend delivered a splendid sermon
and the choir had prepared special
music for this service.

W. M. S. Hear Report
The regular monthly meeting of the
W. M; S. of the 'United Church was
held in the Sunday School room of
the church on Tuesday afternoon last
week. The president, Mrs. J. Brack-
enridge, occupied the chair, A special
feature of the meeting wasthe report.
given by Mrs.,(Dr.) Ramage, Gorrie,
of the Branch convention which had
been held at St. Marys. The report
given by Mfrs. Ramage was most in-
teresting and was as complete a re-
port of the convention as it was pos-
sible for a delegate to give. Miss Car-
oline;Wellwood, on furlough from the
China mission field, is expected to be
the guest speaker at the tiex,t regular

MORRIS COUNCIL
Minutes of Council meeting held in
the Township Hall, Morris, on Mon-
day, Aug. 12th, 1985.
Members were all present, the
Reeve presiding.
Minutes of last meeting were ap-
proved as read.
The Township rate for the present
year was set at 2 mitis on the dollar.
The Council decided to give Wm.
Locking a dollar per day as relief on
account of his accident. Carl Oakley
was given $10.00 as relief.
