butt is very low at the home of her
sister, Mrs. Sutherland and no hope
of recovery is held. Miss Terriff is

ghan and other relatives here.
The W. M. S. of the United Church
held a very succesful tea at the home
of Mrs. Jas. Falconer on Wednesday

Women's institute, was held on Friday
last at the home of the President,
Mrs. Robt; Ross, with Mrs. Ross in
charge of the meeting. After the open-
ing exercises, it was decided to send
the secretary, Miss Grace Richardson
to the Home Economics class as a
delegate. As .next meeting is grand-
mothers meeting, the program is to
be in their charge, and Teeswater 'In-
stitute is being invited to be present,
also the District President, Mrs. El-
mer Ackert of Holyrood. Mrs. Ross
then gave a very interesting and suc-
cessful demonstration on the making
of scones, Mrs. Russel Gaunt ,the lst
vice-president was in charge of the
program, which was as follows:—
Mouthorgan duet by Kenneth and
Donald Ross. A reading by Miss Vel-
ma Scott, and Kenneth Ross gave,
mouthorgan selection. Mrs. Ezra
Scholtz played a violin selection, and
Miss Agnes Gillespie sang a solo. Mr.
Foster Moffatt, Ex-M.P. of Bruce,
then gave a very interesting and in-
structiveaddress on "Procedure of
Parliament. After which the National
Anthem was sung, and lunch was ser-
ved and a social half-hour was much
enjoyed,
Mr. and Mrs. Victor Emerson visit-
ed on Sunday at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Elmer Tiffin of Turnberrry.
The W. M. ,S. of Langside church
are meeting at the home of Mrs. Jas.
MacIntosh on Thursday.
McKenzie's orchestra of Ripley are
holding a jitney dance at Langside on
Thursday evening next.
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Harkness of Tor-
onto spent the week -end with his par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. George Harkness
and Miss Reba Marshall returned with
them.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Scott of Rip-
ley spent Sunday with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Hill and Mr. and
Mrs. Emerson Morris motored from
Chicago and left their four children
to holiday with their grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Hill.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Alton and
children from Ashfield spent Sunday
with Mr .and Mrs. Jos. Tiffin.
Rev. Gordon Rintoul and family of
Sudbury, and Rev. David Perrie of
Battleford, who are holidaying at their
cottage at the lake, visited last Wed-
nesday with the former's aunt, Mrs.
Wm. Purdon.
Mr. Aldin Purdon returned home
from Wingham Hospital last Wed-
nesday.
Mrs. Chas. Gillespie and Betty left
last week to visit with her sister, Mrs.
Borthwick of St. Catharines.
Mr. Chas. Wightman and Miss May
also Mr. Geo. Wightman and Ivan of
Westfield spent Sunday at the •home.
of Mr. and Mrs. Smith of Brussels.
Mrs. Jas. Brighan and sons of 13lyth
visited with her father, Mr. Wight -
man oh Wednesday last.
The United W. M. S. of Langside
was held at the home of Mrs. George
Harkness with the President, Mr,s,
Jennie Reid in charge of the meeting.
Miss Emma Richardson was appoint -
ted to be President when Miss Reid
moves to her home in Teeswater. Miss
Richardson and Mrs. Rising read very
interesting missionary readings.

Knox Presbyterian Church were the
guests of'the MissionBand en Wed- i
nesday afternoon. The President, Miss
Alba Mawbray had charge of the
meeting. Following the scripture les-
son, prayer and routine business. Miss
Lois Elliott sang a solo, "Pm Only a
Little iChristian", and Miss betty`
Anne Palconer gave a reading "Shut
in but not shut out." Miss Alba Mow-
bray gave a very inter•esting review
of the Study Book "' Flowers in Ear
t ielld s," ties Elliott read a very fine

Band, and during the social period,
Mrs. P. S. MacEwan on behalf of the
W. M. S. presented Mrs. Falconer:
with a silver flower` basket, to which
she made a fitting `.reply. Mrs. Fal-
coner and Petty Ann leave this week
for their new home in Listowel,
Institute Entertain Brussels Branch
A pleasant time was enjoyed on
Thursday afternoon at. the United
Church when the Women's .Institute
had as their ;guests, twenty-five ladies,
from the Brussels Branch. The Presi-
dent, Mrs. S. N. Gallaher presided,
and conducted the opening period.
The secretaries of the two branches
called the names of those present,
who answered by ndming their "Pet
Superstition."
Mrs. Harold Speir president of the
Brussels Branch, :presided for the pro-
gramme, which was presented by the
visiting ladies. She spoke briefly of the
splendid worok .accomplished by the
Woman's Institute. The first number
was a piano' solo by Ivirs. W. Cr. King,
followed by a paper on "Hospitality,
Old and• New,"by Mrs, Jno. Arm-
strong. Mrs. J. C. Scott rendered a
solo, and Mrs. Robert Strachan, who
is the Institute member o fthe League
of Nations, gave a most interesting
reportof that organization. Miss Eliz-
abeth Downing demonstrated "Salad
and sandwich making", while the
guests viewed the quilt exhibit.
Groups were arranged for lunch, ser-
ved by the Bluevale ladies.
Mrs. Alice Aitken expressed the
pleasure of having the neighboring
members present, to which Mrs. Spier
replied.
Services at Bluevale and Ebenzer
Churches were withdrawn on Sunday.
Rev. A. V. Robb being- away on va-
cation.
The pulpit -in- XCnox Presbyterian
Church was occupied by Douglas Mc-
Donald of Lucknow, and next Sun-
day there will be no service. The pas-
tor, Rev. J. R. Greig expects to be
in his own pulpit again for August
25th.
Malcolm Black who suffered a brok-
en leg some weeks ago has sufficiently
recovered to return home from the
hospital at Wingham.
Mrs. Lillow met with an accident
this week, while crossing the verandah
she slipped and fell, breaking a bone
in her right wrist.
King MacDonald of Montreal vis-
ited with relatives in the village this
week.
Miss 'Caine of Gorrie is visiting at
the home of IVIr. and Mrs. Arthur
Shaw.
Mr .and Mrs. Will Jamieson and
daughter of Elora, were Sunday vis-
itors with Mr .and Mrs. P. D. Ring.
Mrs, Mary Sanderson has returned
to her home in Toronto after spend-
ing the summer at her hoine here.

Ann moved to their new home at
•Listowel on Monday, and Mr. and
Mrs. Lowry moved from Britton to
the store recently purchased from
Mrs. Falconer.
Visitors at the home of Mrs. Rob-
ert Musgrove on Sunday were: Mr.
and Mrs. Will Mahoney, Guelph; Mr.
and Mrs. Norman Hoover, Brussels;
Mr: and Ivirs. Milton Smith and son,
Ross, Morris.
"On Trip to West
Alex: Mowbray left on Tuesday
morning for Alberta, accompapied by
fifteen young men, who will work on
farms. Mr. Mowbray has fitted up.a
comfortable cabin attached to his car.
They took a supply of provisions with
them and will live in the cabin until
they, reach their destination.

ceased. The funeral service was con-
ducted at her hoine Saturday with
Rev. R. A. Brook in charge. Mrs. H.
Phillips sang very effectively "The
Old Rugged. Cross":. Floral trib-ufes
were many, and bore mute testimony
to the high ,esteem of the deceased.
Pallbearers were:, James Sims, James
Lockie, Elwin Munroe, James Heff-
ron. Interment was made in Union
Cemetery.
