Mrs. Hector MacKay are gathering.
at their home in East Wawanosh to
celebrate the eighty-ninth birthday of
Mr. Hector Mackay. Born in Inver-
ness-shire, Scotland, he came to this
country when six years of age with
his parents, and two sisters, and three
brothers. The family settled in Zorra
Township near Woodstock, after
wards moving to Kinloss, and he has
made his home in this district ever
since. Forty-eight years ago last
March, he married Miss Catherine
MacDonald, and to them eleven child-
ren were born, Christena, Mrs. Pur-
don, John of Wawota, Sask., Sarah,
Mrs. Markel, Kennedy, Sask., Dan of
Guelph, and Charles of Dunnville,
Miss Agnes, at home; Cassie, Mrs.

The storm of wind, rain and hail
of Saturday night, did considerable
damage to crops in West. Wawanosh.
Hail as large as hens eggs fell and
beat the oats right out of the growing
plant. Many fields being practically
ruined.

The regular meeting of the W. M.
S. was held in the schoolroom of the
United Church on Tuesday, July 16,
Mrs. Jos. Breckenridge presiding. Af-
ter the call to worship', "0 Master,
let me walk with Thee" was sung, and
the President led in prayer. The De-
votional leaflet "Joyous Friends" . was
read by Mrs. A. Shaw. Mrs. A. V.
Robb sang beautifully "The City
Foursquare". Minutes of the last
meeting were read and adopted. Mrs,
J. Scott gave a reading on "Tithing"
and Mrs. J. 13reckenridge one on
"Temperance." After singing "Work
for the nght is conning" Mrs. Breclz-
enridge led in the study of our Mis
siort Work in Trinidad, the speakers
being, Mrs. G. C. Patterson, Mrs. G.

District President Spoke to Institute
The July meeting of the Belgrave
Branch of the Women's Institute was
held at the hone of Mrs. Jno. Wight -
man Tuesday, July 16th, when there
was a splendid attendance present.
The president, Mrs. N. Keating, con-
ducted the meeting which was opened
by -all singing "0 Canada" and repeat-
ing the Lord's Prayer. The minutes
of the previous meeting were adopted
and the treasurer's report received.
The roll call was responded to with
"What can I do to make our Insti-
tute a success?" A splendid paper was
given by Mrs. Jesse Wheeler, on the
subject "Loyalty." Mrs. F. Oster, the
District President, was here from
Blyth and gave a splendid talk on the
Institute and its work and also ex-
plained new work being introduced.
A piano duet by Sara Cole and Char-
les Scott was much enjoyed by all. It
was decided to hold a short course
in the Fall and to secure the names
of those wishing to take advantage g of

time, over 30, attended the Institute
meeting held at Mrs. Herd's on' Wed-
nesday afternoon. In the absence of
the President, Mrs. Dave Eadie, Mrs.
Alex. Coirtgan took her place and
called the meeting to order. Mrs. G.
Inglis, sec-treas., being absent, the
Minutes were read by,Mrs. Eldred
Renick. The following program was
given: Motto, Mrs. Wm. Abram; pi-
ano music, Miss jean Herd; recitation,
Mrs. Walter Ballagh; Roll Call, Uses
for Vinegar; Community Song "Car-
ry me back to Old Virginia"; topic,
"The Folly of Pride", Minnie Jeffray.
Sandwiches, tarts and tea were serv-
ed by the lunch committee, Mrs. Herd,
Mrs. Newans, Mrs. McIntyre, Misses
Halr-ney and Jeffray.

Girls Reunion
A very enjoyable time was held on
Saturday, July 6th, when the Mein'
tosb and Belmore Old Boys and Girls
met for their 7th annual reunion at
Exhibition Park, Toronto. Visitors
from a distance .were: Mr. and Mrs.
John Harper, Robert and Bruce Hark-
ness from Carrick; Mr. Eldon Peter -
man, Wingham; Misses Muriel Lane
and Edna Johann, Belmore; Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Dane and brother, Wrox-

A picturesque wedding Was held at
the country hole of Mr. and Mrs: W.
H. Jewell, Colborne Township, on
Tuesday, when their daughter, Mar-
garet Cenetta, was married to Mr.
Franklin Bainton, of Blyth. Rev. F.
Craik,' of Victoria United Church,
and summer flowers. The wedding
music was played by Miss Margaret
Mason of London. During the sign-
ing of the register, Miss Josephine
Weir of Auburn, sang. Miss Effie.
Jewell was bridesmaid and Mr. John
Tiernay was best man. Following a
motor trip to Montreal and Gaspe,
they will. reside in Blyth.
